Firmware 4.8 disappeared from the Naim site

Just tried it. It seems to be working for me and I can download the mac dmg file.

Strange, I’ve tried it a few times over the last few weeks and it stopped working a while back.

Does seem to work now…

If you click on the link in this file you end up downloading the file:
48-windows-update-instructions-1.pdf
and the download link in this file goes nowhere, as I already had described.

Thank you very much for your help, Robert!
Please don’t be offenede, but now I hope this is a trustworthy download.
Why is this not on the NAIM website.

See my earlier post.

It has downloaded the firmware just fine for me from the link I posted.

You are clicking on the wrong link!

There are four links here: the first two are the two firmware versions and the second two are the two guides. The first two don’t have coloured underlining…

If you want the firmware, click on one of the first two links in the original site Richard posted (below is an explanatory photo).

And @robert_h ’s file will be totally fine, as an alternative.

They are not on Naim’s website because some marketing guys revamped Naim’s website for Focal-Naim and made a complete hash of it. Lots of important stuff is missing currently, but you can check with Naim support if you don’t trust the regulars here.

I have a backup of the firmware on a volume, if you are stuck.
I can throw it into a Dropbox location, if required.

Just tried it again, and this time it works. Seems to be erratic, as I’m not the only person who has reported this problem.

  1. Thanks for you suggestion, but that is exactly the PDF with the two links.
I just tried again (PC Link). This opens another PDF 48-windows-update-instructions-1.pdf which links back to the original web-site.
The lower section your screenshot shows with download … is non-existant. It also actually should point to 4.8, not 4.7.
  2. I really highly appreciate the support of @robert_h. My point is simply, that this SW should be on the official site of Naim.
The NAIM systems are high-end (expensive ) hifi devices. The SW shouldn’t be discontinued after a few years, because some marketing/sales guys think you should buy a new system because they can force you to do this. This simply leads to the conclusion, that Naim willl not be in the selection list for the next system. And I’m not even stating to talk about other severe issues with this system (like the poor design on display and CD-drive!)

The actual links are not the bit that looks like it’s underlined and opens a pdf, but the two boxes right at the top which open the PC update and the Mac update. I tried it just now so I know it still works.
So for PC, click on the very first sentence at the top, which says “Download version 4.8 Software (PC)”

You get a page that looks like this:

Incidentally we all agree with you on your point 2. But while the Focal guys sort themselves out, we Naim enthusiasts on this forum can help other Naim customers with some of their problems at least.

I don’t see any indication on this happening. But maybe I’m blindfolded.

many thanks for marking the links! I also was fooled to go to the underlined links and kept circling in a loop :frowning:

At last was able to download and successfully update my old Qute and login to TIDAL.

Unfortunately, it seems that Tidal HiRes is still not available - everything comes at 16/44.1. This long thread seems to confirm this:

tidal-flac-hi-res/31920/126 (sharing a link is blocked)

You can share links of forum posts!

Unfortunately you cannot get high res Tidal on the green screen streamers because of their hardware limitations and we know that Naim do not expect to be able do anything about that.

However you should in due course be able to get the new internet radio service, and that will involve another firmware update, so with your new-found knowledge that should be a breeze for you!

May not be the right place for this but I think it is linked.

My Unitilite is updated to 4.8 and it and the muso have been happily working with Tidal for several years.

I think Tidal has updated something in the last few months and now everything is screwed! There is obviously a new interface with the new tidal update looks very pretty. Sometimes I can find the devices on the App and sometimes I cannot. When I do sometimes the tidal works and play a few songs form the playlist or album selected, then everything freezes and I have to sue the remote to stop the track, change volume etc.

Sometimes I have to relog into Tidal on a new interface and it works as for a short while. Sometimes I had to log into tidal on what looks like an old interface and it always fails to log in.

Sometimes I get a message telling me that tidal has been updated and I need to update the hardware…. I cannot find anything that tells me what version or where to get the update. I seem to have the latest update, 4.8 already.

It’s the same with the Muso sometimes it works sometimes not. Sometimes I can see it sometimes not. And neither will link with the other when they do work…

Can anyone assist? What’s going on
Is there an update I have not seen? Is it the green screens mentioned above now obsolete? I see mention of Tidal updates and Naim being out of synch in the last, is this the case now? Any one else having the problem? Any help appreciated….

It’s almost certainly a networking issue. You need to turn it all off and then turn things on sequentially; router, switch, Naim.

Thanks HH have tried that 4 times to date. Not Probably should have added the Uniti is hard wired the Muso is WiFi…. It seems to be since the Naim App has updated…. Will try again.

I suppose I don’t understand why it works and then stops working after a few minutes and in particular the upgrade your firmware message I get.

4.8 is the latest version.

One issue you may have with Tidal is that they have abandoned MQA coding and now are offering hi res recordings instead. But the green screen streamers and unitis can’t handle hi res from Tidal, nor is it possible for Naim to update them because of hardware limitations in the Naim streamers. I believe there is a similar problem with gen 1 musos.

That may be what Tidal is trying to tell you. However if you select only CD quality streams, then those should still work ok.

The “upgrade your firmware” message may be intended for Naim customers who have the possibility to upgrade their firmware for the new Tidal hi res service. That’s gen 2 musos, Atom, Star, Nova, NDX2 etc and New Classics of course.

Thank you David. Makes sense I suppose will adjust the Tidal settings and see what happens… shame if that is the case.

I can play the Tidal Max on my NDS, within a Roon environment.
Here the Roon Server deals with the Tidal stream & its internet based servers.
The NDS gets a UPnP stream from the local Roon Server.
The NDS is not marshalling the internet based stream, just a local one, as if it was on a local library. So formats upto 44/192, DSD are possible, as just with the MQA formats previously with Tidal Masters.
