For 1st gen. streamers a factory reset was in the instructions, so you were supposed to do it every time. (Actually I usually never bothered, and must have done 20 or more updates with no problems, but that’s what they said.)
With 2nd gen. streamers Naim do not say that you should do it as a matter if course. They tend to recommend it if something isn’t right with either functionality or sound quality if other fixes don’t work.
Hi there.
Sorry, but some bad news here around: again eventually and randomly, the Naim APP loses connection with the NDX2 and the playlist in progress begins to break and plays staggering, as if the signal stopping and starting quickly multiple times.
I certainly begin to consider selling the NDX2 and replacing it with some more stable and less capricious full streamer; perhaps Auralic Vega G2.1 or Lumin P1.
I don’t know, but quite disappointed…
I can understand you level of frustration, as you want your music system to just work and not dealing with glitches of software which destroy your listening enjoyment. Did you already connect Naim support with your issues ?
Thanks, @BertBird .
Yes, fortunately Naim’s service is exceptional, and that’s what most detracts me from making hot decisions…
Upon their request, I just sent them the logs folder, which they will study and are supposed to help.
But, for now, without the best source in the main system…
I had updated the firmware 7 days ago and the NDX 2 continues to work without any problems selecting Qobuz (selecting Albums & Playlist), NAS and Internet Radio.
What you should do is unplug it from the power, wait a minute or two and then plug it back into the power. It should start the update again and hopefully this time it will finish. I hope this helps.
thanks, David, thus I should power down the XPSDR, shouldn’t I?
rgds,
Stefano
Yes exactly. When the new platform streamers do an update, they still have the last working firmware saved, so you shouldn’t be able to break it!
I bought my ND5XS2 around mid-2020. I have been religiously updating its firmware whenever there is one. So far, I have only 2 instances wherein I encountered some glitches after the update. As advised by Naim Support, I did a reset and everything was sorted after that.
As to the change in SQ right after an update, I sometimes hear a very slight difference. But honestly, as one pointed out, I also attribute this to probably the quality of the mains, my physical condition such as tiredness, stress level, or even the degree of my tinnitus at that time. I say this because with or without an update, I do hear or perceive to hear some differences in SQ from time to time.
finally I powered down the XPSDR/NDX2, then switched on again: the unit works correctly but, surprise, no firmware update!
now, let’s get back at the beginning, when “update in progress” for the first time appeared on the screen. actually I didn’t launch any update myself; it starded automatically as soon as I switched the unit and the entire system on after a week of pause!
thanks and regards,
Stefano
You can check in the app to see what the current firmware is. But also if there is an outstanding update, then you should see it both by the download sign next to the streamer in the rooms screen of the app, and in the home page for the streamer, also “check for updates” in the settings screen should tell you what the current score is.
hi David, the current firmware is 3.8.0 as it was before; so no update, actually!
I have to launch the firmware update manually, shouldn’t the download start again automatically at the next switch on.
rgds,
Stefano
It usually will launch the update at switch on, but there is no disadvantage to doing it manually and that is what I would do myself.
Well, after several tests and diagnoses, finally we have proceeded to fine tunning the new router and the DEVOLO PLC system communication configuration, and, for the moment, the operation and performance of everything seems to be optimal and stable…
We’ll continue to observe, no doubt, but my apologies to the Naim software team; the experienced glitches do not seem to be related to the latest firmware official release, v3.8.1.
Yes mate no issues and sounds bloody lovely…
But it sounded lovely before. Perhaps a little more dynamic.
Since last week I have been experiencing the very same on ND5XS2. What a hell! Regardless of the source.
I only found that the switch to next track helps sometimes. Sometimes it can not find the room after these dropouts.
Firmware reset does not help. The only thing I haven’t tried is the ethernet cable. No changes in the network, no new devices.
What is the log folder? Where to find these logs?
Hi, @Pauel.
I hope you were able to figure it out.
After many tests’n trys, in my case it was resolved with a Power Line Communicators (PLC- Ethernet On the Mains) reconfiguration, and stable since then; but I still think the last FW update introduced something not deliberate nor desired.
Try contacting Naim tech support; they are the ones who must tell you the process for downloading the logs and make the folder to send them…
Good luck!
I still haven’t upgraded!
My philosophy is what ain’t broke doesn’t need fixing.
Don’t have the latest app either.
