First or last?

I’ve been wondering if replacing just the Last Ethernet cable would matter? I use three AudioQuest Diamond Ethernet and one AQ Vodka from modem to router. Then Diamond from my router to ee8 switch, one from Nas to switch, one from switch to Auralic streamer. I’m wondering if using say a top model Shunyata from switch to Auralic would make a big difference?

I suppose, in theory, it should - depending on what the cable is trying to achieve.

If it’s removing mechanical noise, then that last cable prevents transmission of mechanical noise/ vibration whatever went on further up the chain.

Similarly, if it’s shielding from EMI, etc, then the same applies.

So the last cable may well be of more significance than others up the chain. (A little like how a good mains cable helps, even though it’s only coming in at the end of a long line of other cables)

I suppose we should look at it all from that “end” of the chain.
Whether different cables help further on up the chain is just more gravy!

Just my thoughts, of course!

Good question. I have BJC ethernet cables but use diamond on last leg.

I am considering Shunyata Omega on last leg and then selling diamond.

I think the last leg is most crucial although the other cables before affect the sound in the chain. I use EE8 Farad Super 3 into Phoenixnet then Diamond into ND555.

Server is now separate from hifi racks and is wired from netgear switch into server.

I have tried other cables in the chain including chord c stream, catsnake and vodka. I find all BJC with diamond on last leg to work well.

If I was you I would get a shunyata top end cable and then look at selling some of the others to fund it. I heard Omega in @Dunc’s system and it worked great on last leg.

I tried the Shunyata Sigma. Too sirupy for my tastes. The Diamonds are livelier and quicker, more groovy. But others like them very much.
I returned them to UK . Now they are stucked at customs Uk since 2 weeks, without any information. A nightmare.

As others have posted, general consensus seems to be last cable in the chain has the biggest impact in most cases. As to if the cable swap would make a big difference, only way to know for sure is to try it out with your own kit. As always, cables can be system dependent. I’m using the Shunyata Sigma & am very happy with its impact. From what I can tell even some of Shunyata’s own cables are voiced slightly different depending on the model. So moving up the chain may not always be the preferred cable for everyone.

Have you ever tried your Auralic Aries using wireless?

I had an ultraRendu with LPS1 and it wasn’t until I used my Aries G2 wireless that I heard its improvement over it.

I have a dedicated wireless router (in WAP mode) in the listening room a few metres away from the Aries with nothing but the Aries connected to it.

All the extraneous noise in Ethernet cables aren’t a factor anymore.

I did when I first got my Aries 2.2 but it wouldn’t connect! I think the router might be too close! I’ll give it another try. And I had Auralic helping me

Hi Dan, how you feeling? Cancer just Sucks! Been there still here being a weiner😝 anyway my 2025 budget is done. I have about $11K of equipment I need to sell. Summer is the worst time of year for selling hifi
