Flatcap XS with NAC 282

I’m aware it’s not going to perform at it’s best, but is it technically possible to power a NAC 282 from a Flatcap XS for both the audio circuitry and the control circuitry?

So it would serve the usual functions of both a NAPSC and Hi-Cap.

Have searched through connection guides and manuals to no avail.
Power supply specs suggest that Flatcap XS doesn’t have the 18.5v output that the NAPSC would normally provide.

Is it safe to power the NAC 282 control circuitry with 24volt supply?

No. You need the Napsc. As you have pointed out, the voltage is very different.

Thanks HH.
It’s what I thought, but I’ve seen a bodge cable to do it.

If you have a 282 it should have come with a Napsc, did yours not come with one ?
Also if you have seen some sort of “bodge cable”, any sort of discussion of power supply mod’s is not allowed under forum rules.

It’s a good thing that it has 2x24 v ,then you can use two Snaic 5 ’s to power the Nac 282,but you also need a Napsc(always supplied with a Nac 282)

Yep, I do understand the rules. OK bodge was probably not the right terminology, it actually looked like a Naim cable with 5 pin DIN flatcap output to the smaller NAPSC connector at the other. I could be wrong though.

No, as others have already said.

Hopefully your NAC282 came with a NAPSC.

I think it is technically possible to use a Flatcap XS in place of two Hicaps. This is considered by the forum to be sub-optimal, but is a possible way forward for you, perhaps on a temporary basis until you can buy a HC (or two).

You’ll likely find that it’s the cable used when powering a Headline with a Napsc.

The NAPSC supplies 18.5V, not the 24V you get from a Hicap or Flatcap. Get the NAPSC if you haven’t already got one for the 282.

Thanks for all the responses.
Have now had it confirmed that the 282 (soon to be in the post) will come with a NAPSC.
The NAPSC wasn’t on the listing, just a Flatcap.
So I didn’t go for the Flatcap as it deserves at least a Hi-Cap DR.
Plenty time to hunt down a PSU when the 282 is being serviced.

Good, the Flatcap XS has the advantage of 4x24v and no linking plug in use over Hicap 2x24v and a linking plug must be in use.

I doubt hardly anyone uses a flatcap with a 282. Most will be using 2 Hicap DR’s or a Supercap.

That’s my plan.
The previous owner of the 282 obviously didn’t think so though.

I think that might be because the Flatcaps before Flatcap XS and 2X didn’t provide 4x24v.

The Flatcap 2x did. It was the Flatcap (only one 2 x 24V feed), and the Flatcap 2 (one 2 x 24V and one 2 x 22V) that didn’t.

Oh sorry forgot the 2 x ,thanks
