Should of updated my profile, added a 250dr recently to hopefully bring more from the PMC’s which has happened, system sounds more mature if that makes sense, dynamics are still excellent but everything seems to have added control, there’s an ease to the system, before it always sounded a little bit forced.
I think a little bit more detail especially in the vocal range would be beneficial especially as my hearing is slowly getting worse, tinnitus at times can be bad and my right ear is definitely the weakest.
I pick up on vocal distortion and any edge that is present can be frustrating at times.
My plan was to steadily improve the electric’s first before trying different speakers, hopefully bringing out more from the PMC’s with each step, an xps or xps dr was the planned next move followed by another hicapdr or possibly a supercap but as I will not move to a 252 guessing a supercapdr maybe over kill.
So I’m thinking is now the time to try different speakers or should I stay on my original path.
I ran the Kanta 2s with 282/250 DR for a couple of years and was very happy with them. I did find the sound quite up front, but I liked that. At times in my room they could be edgy with that amplification (source was NDX 2/555 PS DR) so I would home demo first if you can. But the mid-range was beautiful and the bass deep and controlled. I only moved up to the Sopras because they just brought more of everything I liked about the Kantas.
Many thanks for your response, what you describe seems to be a common theme with the kanta 2’s and you have a much better front end than mine so that is a concern.
My room probably doesn’t help but room treatment is not an option, I asked my dealer if they do home demo’s but they don’t which makes life a little tricky, I will arrange to hear them but I’m beginning to think they maybe a risky option, need to give it some further thought, by the way I love the look of your Sopra’s great colour choice, I would love to put a pair of those in our lounge just to see the look on my partner’s face😂.
Thanks again for your reply.
