Football season 2022 - 2023

In case you missed the Arsenal documentary here is another clip which gives you an insight into Arteta’s style and the mentality he wants to install.

The FD under questioning at the AGM confirmed they received offers and present the viable ones to the Board. Delia always told us they received no offers???
The club badly needs new owners as both on and off the field we’re at an all time low.
The last two home performances have been absolutely clueless.

At least we have a week to recover. Noticeable for the last few 2-a-week games it’s been good bad good bad.

I think it’s fair to say that intensity of games and our style of play is taking it’s toll when frequency of games is high.

Either way it’s a fun ride (for both teams) this season !

Despite what rival fans say a guarantee of 2nd place and of course Champions League football is a huge step for Arteta and this young team who with a few additions each transfer will continue to improve.

This isn’t a one off chance in a lifetime season with games like the one against Newcastle and at Anfield and the Spuds this team like yours is growing and coming of age.

I’ve been watching this club for over 40 years and we traditionally have short periods of brilliance followed by long periods of mediocrity but what Mikel Artet, Edu, Per, Jack Wiltshire and the board are trying to build is something more permanent.

I think you are being a bit harsh. I thought Wenger consistently achieved top 4 and entry to CL

Hardly brilliant though and I wasn’t a Wengerout I did and still do thank Arsene for some of my best days as an Arsenal fan but after the Champions League final defeat we did slide back into mediocrity.

I know we moved stadiums and had financial constraints back then but top four was never a trophy as Arsene famously said it does bring finances and attracts better players but for s club like Arsenal competing for the PL trophy is the least that should be accepted.

Nothing to base this on other than gut instinct.

Arsene was Arsenal through & through. When the new stadium was built I believe half the money was to come from the sale of the Highbury site &, had this all materialized, the financing of the other half was more than manageable.

Unfortunately, the financial crisis hit & I doubt the full pre-crisis price of Highbury was either reached at all or was not achieved until years after originally anticipated.

Rather than the board explaining this to fans, & undoubtably receiving flack for it, they hid the fact that anticipated funds for players were a lot less than expected by getting Arsene to constantly say to fans that he didn’t need to pay big transfers when he could continually find good players at lower prices & tune them into much better ones.

He was prepared to take years of complaints from fans to protect the board, due to his deep love of the club that he had played a major part in creating in its’ modern form.

As I said, no special knowledge, just applying common sense to what I remember was the financial climate at the time. I have no idea whether this is close to the mark or not.

We fans where all fully aware of the financial constraints and what was behind them not just the lack of investment but the sales of Robin Van Persie to Man U, Samir Nasri, Kolo Toure, Gael Clichy and Emmanuel Adebayor all to Man City where all financial not team decisions.

Arsene is to most of us older fans the greatest manager in our club’s history his love for the club though would eventually lead to many newer/younger fans turning in him. Speaking from my head and not my heart he should have gone after that first trophy win in 10 years or perhaps after the FACup win over Chelsea.

He took the blame for the clubs slide out the top for due to a lack of investment during the infighting and the battle for total ownership between the Kroenke family and the other share holders.

Prior to the Kroenke family taking over the club there where some very shady individuals in and around transfers culminating in the massive over payment for Pepe.

Arsene and his wife returned for the first time to Emirates since he left and was given the respect and the love he truly deserves.

Mikel is desperate for him to return to the club in some capacity as are the owners and we all hope he will because he is missed and much loved.

Happy with the result in the first leg.

KdB’s strike was every bit as good as Vinicius Junior’s opener.

I’m looking forward to the second leg in the Etihad!

Yes a good game with two superb goals. Interesting how quiet Haaland was - can’t make my mind up whether it was a consequence of City’s understandably more cautious tactics or good RM defence.
I know most teams are guilty of it these days, but RM really push the “dark arts” to the limit. I really hope City get their revenge for last year, but you write off RM at your peril.

Erm, are Alkmaar here to play football, or what ?

My love for the Spammers is naturally limited (i.e. zero…) but, that was a rough half for them.

Ultra negative opposition, a ref. who doesn’t seem to give them the rub of the green and a speculative shot that the goalie makes a mess of.

It’s football, Jim, but not as I like it.

Through gritted teeth I say the Spammers deserve to be 2-1 (10 mins left) but it’s such a low quality game.

… a bit like our lot recently…

I’m sure Levy has a few tickets for the Champions League Final.
Does that count ?

Blimey Posh!

indeed, Posh finishing 19 points below Sheff Weds and then stuffing them. I am hoping the same does not happen to Luton today - eleven point gap with Sunderland who I believe qualified for the play offs with the lowest accumulation of points. Let’s just say that today is a very nervy day here.
