I’m in it for the music too, though I certainly wouldn’t be happy with an Echo. But I’ve reached a point where I have zero inclination to upgrade or replace any of my equipment.
You can be in it for the music and want it to sound good.

They may be. I think to remember that there’s at least 30 upgrades since the beginning. With the last, the bedrock, they are broke, divorced, and still audiophiles, playing Bingo every day to get the new Urika 2. ![]()
I disagree. Not many people are interested in nuances between a chord cable or superlumina interconnect.
But there are differences which to me are clearly audible
What does that make me ? An audiophile or a music first person ?
oh and I can hear these differences in my car also when I connect my chord mojo to my car aux in using chord or vertere cables
Just like all cars cannot be the same for example bmw vs Mercedes then cables, sources amplifiers do not sound the same either. It’s not an insult to be an audiophile if that means spending on expensive super lumina cables
Outside of this forum my extended family members think I’m an audiophile or “on the spectrum” to be honest. They humor me that’s for sure. I used to have them sit and A/B test with me but the glazed- over look they give me says it all. I don’t try any longer. I just ask them to enjoy themselves that’s all.
A big smile came to my face when I watched my Mom, sister and niece dance around like no one was watching a month or so ago. It was at that moment I knew something magical was happening. I thank this forum and Naim for this. Anything I do from now on is just a bonus.
It was more a joke….
One thing’s for sure. If you reach a point where you are completely satisfied with your system then either you were never really a true audiophile, or you’ve somehow been cured. Note that deciding not to upgrade anymore isn’t the same as being satsified with what you have. True audiophiles will never ever be satisfied. There will always be one last improvement to chase.
My brother calls me the ‘audiophile’. Strange thing is he normally spends more on Hifi than I do.
I’d take it as a compliment then - He probably thinks you’re more knowledgeable and/or passionate than him!
Agree, and it’s also not the same as being only for the music.

Interesting, I am thinking of buying a DSM Edition/Organik.
I assume you liked it at first, what are its shortcomings now? Or is it simply that you prefer the Naim ‘sound’.
I have not heard the 332/333, but to my ears the DSM was streets ahead of the 222/300.
I really don’t want to make a mistake…. Don’t really want the cost of a 332/333/300, so have deliberately not listened to them.
I also don’t want to buy secondhand.
I’d like to hear how you got to this position. Hope it’s not too painful to talk about.
Thanks, Tony
I think part of my issue is there was nothing wrong with the SN3 and CD5si that i had. I just wanted a change and have spent a significant amount of money.
Initially I bought a Selekt Classic hub with Katalyst DAC, and was very disappointed. It did get better after a month or so. To me it had very little bottom end, whether this was an improvement by run in time or firmware is debateable as a firmware qas released around the time i heard an improvement.
I also missed my physical CD collection which i boxed up. Psychological issue.
Then Linn offered an upgrade path so i traded up almost immediately. More money
The selekt edition hub with Organik DAC is the best thing I heard when demoing systems, is just fantastic.
My frustration is the upgrade path I chose, and the fact i’m not where i want to be, which is dual mono Organik DAC on top of the fact i wasn’t unhappy to start with.
I’ve not yet heard the single versus dual Organik DAC - I guess I should.
I am a bit worried by the ‘for a bit more this would be great’ line, which never ends, but others also say the the dual DAC is worth it. ![]()
Was hoping the LINN amp module would be good enough (at just £800!) but realistically I think it must be the NC 250.
I also need new speakers but that is another story.
I was so blown away when I heard the DSM that I have sort of made my mind up.
Maybe I should at least listen to the 332/333, but then I’ll get sucked into power supplies.
I might need to go back to Mrs Tony to get sign off ![]()
Thanks for your comments,
Tony
The stereo organik dac is very good. I went to two different retailers and both advised agaisnt the amp module for my speakers which are proac. Im glad i took this advice.
Another thing to remember with Linn is that it will expose every weakness in the source material. I use a Melco for digital streaming as well as Qobuz. Some of my ripped CDs sound better theough the dsm, some sound awful. My emi Bowie CDs are all poor. RCA Bowie CDs which i have subsequntly bought and ripped apund great.
I do have a CD collection in the loft but I suspect I’ll be streaming from Tidal (too many playlists to move).
Do you think this ‘problem’ is worse with Linn than Naim or other middle-market streamer?
I have auditioned the DSM twice for 2 hours each time, with a wide range of material - it was universally brilliant across the piece.
I tried several other streamers/DACs, none came close. I have pretty well made my mind up on the DSM…
Thanks for your help.
Tony
I think Linn expose bad source material more than other manufacturers.
I remember my father looking at an old house I was thinking of buying that was cement rendered, and painted. He told me that render covers a multitude of sins. I think Naim have a great sound, and have the same ability to cover up poorer source material.
There is always “room” to improve “something”… but after the tenth or twentieth time You start listening to music, which will be in first place, and the mentioned equipment in second place…
That’s borderline haiku, no?
Just out of interest, why don’t you want to buy pre-loved?
