I‘m running the 808‘s in active mode. So three speaker cabels running to each 808
Red Tineo for me, there’s a picture of them earlier in the thread. They look gorgeous to me.
Ovator 400s. They work very well in a small room, especially one with odd angles. The BMR seems to spread the sound around so one can sit in places other than the sweet spot. They also don’t need to be far away from the wall.
More than one new toy. Dark side ain’t cheap from what I gather.
David
Actually the one box integrated is significantly cheaper than the 552/500.
And you do not need 4 Fraim shelves
And Chord cabling.
So in the end rather reasonable
(and initial results from what I gather are quite good)
I discussed my scenario with him. I took the easy way out and decided to recap/DR. I know what I already have and this will last me for another 15 years. After that time to simplify
Hi Gregg and David!
Yes, I am peering out of the Dark Side to say hello
All is bedding in quite nicely and I am very happy with my decision- the 808’s are doing a stand-up job. As always, when you make one change others soon follow- just the nature of the beast. Given the very favorable currency exchange rate atm I am looking at a phono pre that is begging for a spot on my new rack Be well my friends…
ATB,
Mark
Oh come on, Mark, tell us more…
I don’t merit being on this thread - I’m listening to my Titans right now using cds2/52/135s. No 500/552 for me
That said the addition of Chord Sarum T 5-5 din and replacing my Olive XPS with a XPS DR has me thinking …how much better can Norah Jones sound? Sublime.
Apologies to OP for hijacking this thread
David
Ooh apologies not deliberate. When I came to update yesterday tge spreadsheet had disappeared and I pulled up the auto saved backup, but hadn’t noticed it must have saved before the previous list not after. I’ll check it tomorrow eve and reinstate - together with anything else missed out.
Thanks, no problem…!
Paul Weller sounding particularly soulful last night…
The question was to which of the cabinets are your speaker cables connected
My dealer (Signals) installed my 808’s with the top treble box connected. I did try connecting to the bottom box briefly as an experiment but I found this to be a less engaging than when connected to the top…so I have now reverted back. I am using SL leads and NACA5 links. Tineo finish here too.
Sorry, obviously guilty of multitasking lol, my speaker cable is plugged in to the top box, the high end.
Hi Michael!
I spoke with my dealer today, he recommended for passive driven 808 to do a crosslink speaker cabeling. For example connect 1 cable to the bass section and the other cable to the treble section. Be aware to match plus and minus with the corresponding amplifier.
Same experience - back to the top. What do you like better about the NACA5 links?
They were the links preferred by the dealer, I do have the original Chord links also but haven’t tried them as yet.Super Lumina links are ridiculously priced!
Derek Gilligan from Kudos answered to me in an email, that the 808 was designed with speaker cables into bottom box, then links to top-cabinet. However, he stated there is no absolut rule to this, some customers prefer the speaker cables to top box, then links to bottom box, some the other way round…because of the split design cross-over you are free to experiment…
All I know is that I would love to have a pair, along with required amps, sources, cables…crap. Maybe I can start selling body parts, anyone need a lung?
Ok. Interesting! I would never have the thought to use NACA5 speaker links as they are coming with the Chord links.
I also would have considered Chord Signature to be superior to NACA5?
The Chord Music links are incredible and I would recommend them over SL.
My post a couple of days ago amended, correcting the accidental dropping off of yours and a couple of others, so now I believe correct up that point.
