That’s more like it!
From one of the R&D listening rooms…
Is it some kind of diffusion on the walls or just..art?
I think they are wooden slats to improve the acoustics.
Yes, it’s for diffusion
Should those speaker cables be touching the floor or is the room still being set up? ![]()
I’m asking genuinely, is raising speaker cables off the floor an unambiguous setup requirement? I mean I don’t (which doesn’t say much, if anything!) and I’m sure I’ve read controversial, or at least inconclusive threads on here about the practice
Naim don’t worry about any of that nonsense in their demo room.
Depends on how much you spend on the risers

I hope Naim’s still using C-Stream Ethernet cables as well

No, speaker cables should not touch the floor. Elevating them can prevent static electricity build-up, minimize interference from the floor, and reduce microphonic effects, which are caused by vibrations. While the impact is greater on carpeted floors, lifting cables off the floor, especially high-quality or unshielded ones, can lead to better sound quality and is often considered a worthwhile detail in high-fidelity audio systems.
Dont forget that capcitance to ground for each conductor element in the cable is also reduced by raising the cable off the floor.
These look really tiny in such a big room.
A good few years ago, I heard SL2s in Naim’s Dem room, powered by a 552/500. The sound was massive, particularly when playing Holst’s Planets, and it easily filled the room. They are fabulous speakers. Size isn’t everything.
I have never had the privilege to listen to Naim speakers, but many forum members speak highly of them. So, I immediately believe your words. I wonder if some of the Naim knowledge regarding speaker design made it’s way to Focal.
And……..? You know how stressful waiting is for the senior listeners

I’m not on this visit ofcourse and I hope the participants have a great time.
May I request that this thread remains one about this visit only and doesnt, like many others, decend yet again into debates about A or B… risers or no risers.
Well it was obviously the chance to hear SL2 going through from 552/500 to S1/ 500 finishing with full S1. The pre upgrade was the biggy IMO
You little tease ![]()
Well done to all who went to Naim HQ! Don’t be shy do tell!
