FraimLite or Solidsteel S5-4

A Linn Selekt DSM Edition Black Hub is on the way to me and I’ll shortly be buying a pair of NAP 350 monoblocks so I probably need to upgrade my Norstone Bergen 2 rack.

I’ve been wading through posts on this site for suggestions and aside from Naim Fraim and HRS at scary prices I’ve read good things about the Solidsteel S5.

Given a choice between the FraimLite and the Solidsteel S5-4, which would likely be the best option? - or are there other racks I should consider at prices below £2k for 4 shelves.

The Simon Price Simrak, available from Cymbiosis, is also worth considering…. Regards, Andy

Quadraspire SVT or Isoblue would be good choices, depending on which one looks best to you. The Isoblue is very much up there with full Fraim in terms of SQ, and is nice and low.

@pete84 i am using the SS series 5 racks. Five shelf. Two racks with my 332/333/NC250/NVCTT/NPX300 system I liked the racks very much.

My Selekt Edition sits nicely on an IsoBlue stack. If you do go that way though, it might be worth checking how much space the 350s need above them. If extra space is needed you can add extenders to the levels on which they sit.

A 350 will fit on a standard Isoblue shelf. No harm in having a bit of extra space around it, perhaps an extension piece wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Thanks for your suggestions.

@HungryHalibut I like the Quadraspire SVT and that may be the one I go for.
I didn’t like the look of the IsoBlue and as @PeakMan says I need to check how much space the 350s need above them and it’s 6” so many thanks for pointing that out Roger.
I’m in no mad rush as I can still use my current NorStone rack atm
So I’ll just see if there are any more ideas from you guys over the next day or so.

Thanks again!

Pete

The New Classic boxes are just a few mm higher than your 250DR so they should be fine. Remember that they are fan cooled, and have cooling fins on the sides which the old amps lacked, so in terms of heat dissipate you don’t need to worry.

Depending upon DSM & 350 cable access requirements you might want to consider the Fraim Narrow Rear Leg option to avoid cable and/or connector stress.

Note only available in Fraim standard height, silver or black.

Please don’t post direct links to dealer websites. Thanks.

The Quadraspire also comes in a double wide version, so you don’t need to get two individual stacks if you need the space.

I’m half-way through a shift from two Fraimlite stacks to Quadraspire SVT and would definitely recommend. You can actually buy it as well which seems very hit and miss with Italian rack producers IME.

My primary motivation was practicality (my Vitus RI-101 too big for Fraimlite and the central rear pillars were very awkward with my other non-Naim boxes) but the quality of the finish of the Quadraspire is much better and I got an unexpected lift in SQ from the Vitus which seems much happier sitting on the Quadraspire (using the same sheet of slate and Bassocontinuo Ultrafeet).

I should add I’m keeping some of the Fraimlite for my Nait50 based system.

Apparently the narrow rear stanchion is not available in the U.S. from Focal Naim America. I gave my dealer the part number and they were never able to get one from FNA. We gave up trying.

Many thanks for all your replies.

The Quadraspire SVT seems well regarded, so I’m going for that.
I did consider the bronze upgrade - until I saw the price!!
So I’ll go for the QX7 floor protectors instead.
