Sadly just seen the news that drummer Frank Beard has passed away today. Will be sadly missed, a driving force for such a powerful trio.

Really sad news.
I was just listening to the first “best of” album the other day and reminded me of seeing them at Castle Donnington (when it was monsters of rock, can’t remember the year) Lots of felt ten gallon hats, cheap sunglasses and even a few guys wearing pearl necklaces amongst the crowd. Those were the days.

Sad news indeed. I was just remembering the band with friends a week ago. Or maybe ‘revelling’ in is better, as we thought on their energy, lyrics and enduring appeal of their music.

Very sad, heard he was taken ill a few days ago and gigs were cancelled, did not dream he was that ill. The driving force behind some great songs r.i.p Frank.

I was lucky enough to see them in their pomp in the mid-80’s on the Eliminator tour - magnificent. Frank’s drumming was just superb. I always loved the irony that Frank was the only member of the band without a beard.

I was lucky enough to catch them in Sheffield in 1993, very lucky actually, as I didn’t know they would be performing at the concert I was attending ! Nice surprise.

I saw ZZ Top in 1991 at the Milton Keynes Bowl - they really impressed me. Super band - so sad to read the news of Frank’s passing.

I was there as well. Great day. ZZT, The Law ( Paul Rodgers), Bryan Adams, Thunder, Little Angels. Not bad for £20.

Bryan Adams was great live as well - this gig was the day before he went to No.1 with ‘Everything I Do’ and stayed there for the next 17 years.

Never saw ZZT live, which I now regret. Any good live videos anyone would recommend?
There’s a DVD of them at Rockpalast in Germany in the 80’s which is good. The much later Live in Texas Blu-ray is better picture quality but they’re not as energetic!
