It must of got over excited with the impending upgrade.
Sorry for your misfortune Stu especially as it followed such good fortune. All I will say is happy listening when you get back to a fully functioning system ![]()
I’m not at all worried about replacing the tweeter. When the drive unit was done, Kudos matched it from the serial number and assured me it would be a perfect match for the opposite speaker, and it’s an easy install for an expert dealer.
It’s more the nuisance factor of not being able to do a direct comparison with my new boxes, and the hassle of having to box up those bulky 606’s
Hopefully the next firmware will restore your faith Drago.
3.11 plus more textures, more cohesion, and less HF glare and we are on it ![]()
Hope that they will do the repair at low or no cost. AFAIK the drivers in the kudos are very expensive.
The response from Kudos and the dealer (Audience in Bath) was superb, and the cost to put it right seemed very reasonable to me. I can’t speak highly enough of them and it was incredibly reassuring.
He took his revenge, knowing you will replace it.
Hey Richard
I just noticed you have read 0.8 million posts on the forum.
Maybe we should all celebrate when you get to the full million?

I have one. One way to make absolutely sure you cannot update it is to remove the default gateway in the lan settings. This way even if you accidentally press the button, it will not be able to contact the mothership. That assumes you are using Roon or local files only, and do not need the ND555 to be able to access the internet. I strongly strongly suggest you do not update at this point.
I’ll be internet streaming. I’ll leave it on 3.8 and forget about it. If and when 3.8 becomes a problem I’ll reassess things.
Update: the ND555 remains unlistened
Kudos 606 with dealer for health check and TLC
Another hi-fi rack tier on order to accommodate 2nd PS

That’s sad… nd on 3.8… that’s first price. 606 will be back soon!
Raise the TV just a notch, place the 552 on the top of the left stack, the ND555 head unit on the top of the right and that’s two extra spaces you have created. One for the second 555PS and if there is any way to give the 500 some air, that would be the use of the other space. I wonder how fraims would work? You may also be able to leave the TV at the same height with the fraims, some tape measure work may be in order. Nothing wrong with those racks though, they look really good. Fantastic set up, high performance with high WAF. Congrats.
Ps I only read the initial post about the 2nd 555PS, sorry to hear about your tweeter, it must be great to own speakers that have spares available. I use naim speakers so repairs are more of a journey, but not impossible!
I’ll second that! If I remember correctly Naim used those racks before the Fraim came along! I use a second PS on my ND555 and would say that it pushes the ND from being a good streamer to the edge of the performance envelope. Everything just becomes so much more natural. @Stu299 You won’t regret it, I promise!
As you’ve won the lottery with 3.8.4 on your ND555, be interesting if you could borrow a ND5xs2 to stream into the ND555 to trial Naim’s new streaming features. Would be an intriguing test.
It’s the streaming section of the ND555 that creates most of the 3.8 magic. Using an updated ND5xs2 will get you closer to the new 3.11 signature. I tried this.
My inquiry to you was “clutching at straws” with regards to what is within the changed components in the FW updates.
As you know naim over the years has released firmware updates for the nDAC, as well as streamers.
However we are not informed if the FW 3.10 /11 may have also included DAC firmware changes that may have contributed to the ‘audio complaints’
Your testing of a ND5xs2(3.11) into your ND555(3.8.4) which effectively became a DAC, indicates the possibility the firmware updates only applied to the streaming components.
A step closer. Albeit I forgot to order the glass isolation platforms so another delay before I can install the new shelves, and then finally the new boxes.
Cardboard boxes really are cat magnets!
Difficult now to watch tv ![]()
