Furutech Discussion

Not sure in the UK. In the EU the DPS 4.1 with NCF 50 connectors on both ends is about €1850 for a 2m version. I believe the UK market doesn’t have the 50 NCF plug. Only for the IEC end.

An interesting experiment with furutech connectors - I have two identical power leads with furutech fl-28 iec’s, one gold one rhodium. I had the gold on my Atom HE and rhodium on Nait 50, out of curiosity i swapped them over and having the rhodium on the streamer gives a slightly cleaner, more forward sound, a bit more bite if you will. Its staying that way connected. Never thought iec material would make such a clear difference.

It is rather interesting, without first hand experience I’m sure most will have a hard time believing how much impact changing the end will have on sound. It’s been said here numerous times, once you get to a certain level of copper conductor, the end will typically have more impact then the cable itself. At one point, I too didn’t give connectors much thought before experimenting with different types, was a real “ear” opener as to the amount of impact they can have.

It makes a HUGE difference actually. Today I had three Belden cables of the same length.
One with pure copper unplated connectors, one with FI38(r) connectors and one with fi50 NCF connectors. Also for fun I tried one NCF Schuko with copper IEC. All sound very different.

It’s useful to know that there is a noticeable difference between Gold and Rhodium even when the same connectors are used ie. FI-28 (R) vs FI-28 (G). Although I do not have experience with Gold connectors, I am not surprised by the results as everywhere I read suggests that the Gold is warm and lush, Rhodium is clean, open, detailed and dynamic.

As I do not wish for any more warmth in my system, I chose Rhodium connectors on both FI-28 and FI-50 NCF used with TCS31 and DPS4.1 respectively. The FI-50(R) NCF with DPS4.1 is very good, and if cost is no object I would have added a second one just to experiment. Unfortunately I have other costlier mains power cables so there won’t be anymore costly purchases to satisfy my curiosity.
