Gerry Conway RIP

The great drummer Gerry Conway passed away this week.
He was core to the folk rock of the ‘70s and ‘80s, playing with Fairport Convention, early Steeleye Span, Sandy Denny, Fotheringay, Kate & Anna McGarrigle and Cat Stevens as well as a couple of Jethro Tull albums.
He played on until last year, playing session work for some major artists, drums in the reformed Pentangle and rejoining Fairport for 15 years.
He was a superb drummer providing a rock solid structure for the brilliant musicians he worked with, I saw him many times with Thompson, Fairport, the reformed Pentangle and was lucky enough to chat with him at the Fotheringay 2 launch party and at Cropredy, a lovely bloke as well as a great musician. RIP Gerry, thoughts are with his widow Jacqui McShee.
