Always look forward to the Giro, more so than the T de F. It’s captivating - unpredictable and exciting with gorgeous scenery.
Great win in the TT for Simon Yates today - his first ever on a grand tour. Early days but I hope he carries it on and fulfills his potential.
Will be tuning in for the highlights every day!

Tuesday 10th May

Stage four, Avola - Etna, (166km)

A volcanic summit finish with tomorrow’s stage four.
Any guesses will be wearing the Maglia Rosa after?

The winner

Looking at third place overall, does this meant that Tom Dumoulin is finally back in form? I haven’t seen much written about him recently, but I don’t really follow the cycling press, etc

Great to see him back.

His position is due to his performance in the time trial, so hard to tell if he’s in form.
Watched the interview he gave after the time trial, he was very disappointed. To say he wasn’t a happy bunny would be an understatement.

Mathieu van der Poel lost the Maglia Rosa as expected yesterday but he remains the highest scorer in the Points Classification, so today it’s off with the pink jersey and on with the Red: Maglia Ciclamino (Sprinter’s Jersey).

Juan Pedro Lopez Perez (Trek-Segafredo) will start todays stage with the Maglia Rosa.
The 24 year old Spanish rider also holds the Maglia Bianca (Young rider’s jersey) which will be worn on loan to 2nd placed young rider Mauri Vansevenant (Quick Step Alpha Vinyl Team)

Lennard Kämna (Ger) Bora-Hansgrohe, yesterday’s stage winner, will wear the Maglia Azzurra (Climber’s Jersey). The Bora-Hansgrohe team also gain lead in the Team Classification.

Despite a category 2 climb today’s race will probably end with a mass sprint finish.

The Classification results remain unchanged except for a new Maglia Ciclamino wearer:

:red_square: POINTS CLASSIFICATION AFTER STAGE FIVE

  1. Arnaud Démare (Fra) Groupama-FDJ, on 94pts
  2. Biniam Girmay (Eri) Intermaché-Wanty-Gobert, on 72pts
  3. Fernando Gaviria (Col) UAE-Team Emirates, on 67pts

…and the strange amendment in the top 10 GC; Bilbao and Almeida were 7th and 8th with exactly the same @ 2:00 minutes time, however Almeida managed to win a 2 second time award on todays stage, so he becomes credited with the 7th place @ 1:58
I bet that put a smile on his face.

Interesting to see who actually wins the points jersey. Of those listed I can only see Grimy getting to Milan.

Perhaps if Cav wins a few more stages he will be in with a shout. I can’t see him climbing off.

Sprint stage again tomorrow.

Stage seven: Diamante - Potenza, 198km

It would seem yesterday’s rather uneventful stage gave the top GC guys every chance to conserve their energy for todays very hilly 198km bash. Should be lots of acton with Juan Pedro López in the spotlight defending his Maglia Rosa.
