The first and best GT!

As ever looking forward to this year’s race and the ever welcomed daily summaries from @Debs .

Thanks @Debs .

I would also like to thank @Debs for all her hard work on this thread and looking forward to spending the next three weeks in her company

ATB Graham

Hopefully the race will be entertaining even if GC winner almost certainly already known :grinning:

Bold prediction: Thomas will finish outside the top 10.

Who cares who wins, it’s the scenery of beautiful Italy that counts! :sunglasses: :mountain:

I just hope there are no horrible crashes ( only nice crashes please )
We don’t want a broken bone fest with Giro d’ospedali :ambulance: :hospital:

Will post the official start list of riders as soon as all is confirmed with race numbers…

Pogi all the way!

Do you know something we dont?

the earth is flat

Nope. I just haven’t seen him in form for years. At least he’s reduced how often he crashes himself out, so there’s always hope, I guess.

2nd by only 14 seconds in last year’s Giro isn’t exactly shabby…

I think he’s a good bet for top 5 but Pog only has to stay upright to win.

2021, winner Tour de Romandie, 3rd Volta a Catalunya, 3rd Criterium de Dauphine
2022, 3rd in TdF, 1st Tour de Suisse
2023. 10th in world championship time trial, 2nd Giro D’Italia

Does that count as no form? I think decent results, especially when you consider how Ineos have declined as a team. He may no longer be right up with the big GC favourites but just shy of 38yrs old he’s still competitive.

Sure, but I’ll stand by my prediction that he won’t make the top 10.

If he is upright, I will say top 5!

The ‘preliminary’ start-list has been edited to show race numbers, nationalities, and team race jersey designs ( Post 9 above :slightly_smiling_face:  )

Looking forward the first grand tour of 2024 - it’s almost t-shirt time! :sunglasses:

A few stats of the 2024 Giro:

Youngest rider = Giulio Pellizzari 20 years :it:
team: VF Group - Bardiani CSF - Faizanè
The youngest of the 59 debutants in this Giro.
66kg at 183cm - a good climber with some GC potential

Oldest rider = Domenico Pozzovivo 41 years :it:
team: VF Group - Bardiani CSF - Faizanè
This is his 18th Giro! Plus 3 x TdF and 4 x Vuelta
53kg at 165cm - a pure climber + good GC rider

After 41 year old Pozzovivo the next eldest is 38 year old Simon Geschke :de: Cofidis

As well as including the youngest and oldest, VF Group - Bardiani CSF - Faizanè are the only team in this tour to present all eight riders with the same nationality.

The average age of rider in this tour is 27

The average weight and height is 68.6kg at 181cm
Lightest 52kg / heaviest 84kg
The shortest 164cm and the tallest 199cm

Love it how Pozzovivo cycles like he’s shat his bibs :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Stage 1 : Venaria Reale - Torino (140km)

May the force be with you!

A relatively short and hilly ride to kickoff some guaranteed action, and whoever wins today’s stage will also win the Maglia Rose so a very tempting prospect for many an unpredictable but determined have a go hero, as well as the usual GC hopefuls who won’t want to be left behind a breakaway.
