Just to clarify the Giro tv coverage in the UK, Eurosport is no longer available in the UK but carries on in some European countries. Basically it has been bought out by Disney and closed down in favour of TNT Sports. Information is scarce and contradictory but I have been able to glean the following - please correct me if you know better!
Live coverage in the UK will be on TNT (probably different TNT channels every day) and streaming on Discovery +. Both options involve exorbitant subscriptions to subsidise the football rights rip off.
The only free to air UK coverage I can find is a nightly 1 hour round up on Quest TV at 7 pm with Orla Chenouai and co. ITV is pulling out of all cycling coverage after this years TDF so goodbye to intelligent and coherent presentation!
It would be interesting to know if there are any other channels anywhere offering English language coverage - USA? Australia?

Not sure that you can reasonably describe TV coverage of pro cycling on pretty much every day that there is any happening as ‘exorbitant’ and ‘a rip off’ when it costs less than a pound a day. Most people on the Naim forum wouldn’t be stretched to fund this…
Fancy cables though is a different matter
The rip off I was referring to relates to the cost of broadcasting football which drives very high (to me) subscription rates for access to other sports.
I am only really interested in the Grand Tours and £30.99 a month is more than i am prepared to pay for a service that is mostly of no interest to me. If I wanted to watch all major football (thankfully I don’t) I would have to subscribe to at least 3 services. The market in streaming services is broken.
This a big topic and I don’t want to crash Debs’ thread - maybe worth starting another thread if you want to discuss further - I don’t particularly.
Previously that included Eurosport. That has now turned in the TNT. No idea how long that will continue.
I also had TNT previously through BT which I watched through Sky.
So I currently seem to have TNT channels twice. Clearly I need to sort out my subscriptions.
In terms of quality english language coverage of the Giro, Ned Boulting and Matt Stephens commentate for the UCI world feed. I believe that is available in english speaking countries without a UCI approved broadcaster. Not sure where this would be? New Zealand maybe. Anyway I guess the clever use of a VPN could access Ned and Matt.
Stage 1 takes place in Albania, all looks straight-forward enough with this hilly course but the top time trialists looking for an early stage win may do their best to save it for tomorrow’s frantic 13.7 km time trial.
However, the Maglia Rose is there for whoever wins Stage 1 , and the possible winner could be an opportunist hopeful with no serious form or intention in GC.

Watched the highlights on Quest HD of the first stage, won’t post the result in case anyone reading hasn’t seen them yet. I am pondering whether to pay for the privilege of watching it live. Like @pev999 I resent paying an inflated price so that some footballers and rugby players can get paid vastly inflated salaries.
