Guru Audio, Guru 12 - any real experience?

And?

Hey @Schnuffsche, is that a question for me? If so still awaiting the delivery of the speakers, currently in transit and having completed the vast majority of the journey but stalled on the home straight, trying to contact the courier company for an update.

Yes, that was directed to you @Adam1 on the return of your Guru speakers.

Ever hopeful  of their return. My Guru 12’s are keeping the tunes flowing in the meantime.

After wranglings with UPS the tracker now estimating delivery by the end of the day, will believe it when I see it but fingers crossed that my Guru QM10’s are on their way home.

Unsurprisingly they didn’t get delivered, more frustrating dealings today with their misinformation squad, been told the package will be on its way, we will see.

Hey @Adam1
Really sorry to read about all the doings, with shipping and delivery.

Keep it all positive. I’m sure they’ll turn up, (maybe eventually).
Best wishes.

Heya,

Yeah its definitely a case of so near yet so far at the moment, hopefully they might arrive for the weekend and I can get to give them a spin in their new MK3 guise.

The frustration is more related to the machine that is UPS, and companies like them, where they make themselves so difficult to interact with and to get interested in an issue at their end.

Cheers
Adam

Roger your last.

About the machine…
I feel the same. One of the things that triggers me is the unreasonable delivery targets they create for themselves. So many times recently, I’ve received notification that a delivery is coming and it will arrive at x - y delivery window. Then, arrange to work from home as a result. Next, they don’t turn up during x - y, but maybe 2-3 whole hours later?

My simple question is why set unreasonable delivery expectations?

Anyway, good luck :+1:
Following your thread and looking forward to hearing about the incoming speakers.

Yeah I’m intrigued to see how they fair on the end of the MF A1 amp, it exercises such control over the Ls50 metas that I reckon the upgraded and updated Gurus could really sing on the end of those class a watts.

Hopefully some glimmer of light on the horizon, after escalating a complaint into UPS I was actually contacted by one of their senior managers letting me know he had intervened and resolved the issues on how this was set up on their system. UPS now treating the shipment as a new purchase, as opposed to a repair and they have paid the £350 tax on it (if it was a new purchase) as it would result in a quicker resolution.

Hopefully they might get home after all next week after 3 weeks stuck in Essex, fingers crossed.

I hope you get your refurbed speakers back dude, because look here - Erik has gone missing some with outstanding orders and money due…

https://forums.whathifi.com/threads/guru-audio-scam-warning.132137/

The newest development in that thread is that Guru Audio has been taken over by Audio Tuning Austria, the parent company of Pro-ject turntables and Musical Fidelity, which is encouraging.

AT’s head quarter is just some few hundred meters from my house away. If you need to ask someone, then I could offer to pass by. I have no further relationship to AT however.

Good luck!

Yeah seen that thread before, it’s more he is extremely slow and fragmented in comms than dishonest in my opinion. Bad combination when running a commercial entity I’ll grant you and extremely nerve wracking when being a paying customer.

Also, just to add that Erik repaired my Mk1’s and upgraded them to latest spec all free of charge, when that was a chargeable option via the website for something around £1200 if I recall. So that’s a very generous offer after I bought a pair of his Guru 12’s.

He also replaced Toms speakers with ex show ones when his were damaged in transit on way to Erik. Got a lovely pair of the green ones, very jealous.

Looking forward to them arriving.

Yeah Erik had said he is transferring all logistics and manufacturing to Project parent and also was in some show news where their stands are also quite close together.

Should be a good move, particularly as Erik had some new models in the pipeline.

Latest news is that speakers are now supposed to be with the local UPS depot, so fingers crossed once more for a safe delivery in next 48 hours.

Two horse race now, either Spotify launching it’s hi res service or Adam getting his Gurus back. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
At least they are in the UK, so sure all will be fine.

:joy:

They’ve been in the Uk for over 3 weeks, after just two days to get here all the way from Sweden, just waiting for the delivery guy to be kicking it from the van to the door now.

Even the Guru 8 looks like a great speaker, its smaller but still goes down to 34hz !! That’s all I need.
They have an ‘Ikea speaker’ look, which I like (that’s not an insult from me). Some obvious Scandinavian minimalism in the design.

Since we have some Guru owners in this thread, what is the voicing like? They got some great reviews back in the day in British hifi mags, considered musical if I remember correctly?
