Dug my new tonearm out of storage and ready to mount into Thorens TD 160 MKII. Parts all seem to be in box, however no manual or setup guide so looking for help or copy of the manual. I suspect the outriggers are for setting the VTA, but how far out?
IIRC Vinyl Engine has all the set up documents for the GH228 Export. Note though that the GH228 went through a lot of changes throughout its long life so look for the instructions most appropriate to your version.
Just ask Grok, its all there
Martin
Including a pic of the stripped down tonearm ![]()
Thanks, however Vinyl Engine is closed for new members and seems no way of contacting them directly. I searched posts for links/docs and found a couple, but not found anything detailed
I had my GH228 upgraded by Hadcock to the E version (the only difference is that the E version has Litz wire internally). I think Hadcock charged me 5 UKP, including return shipping-but this was around 1979 or so.
My Hadcock with Entré MC cartridge way back when was a marriage made in heaven. Enjoy.
Thanks, I have a Shure V15 HE ready to attach, plus a couple of Ortofons. Do you have any instructions/advice regarding the positioning of the outrigger weights? Also the arm/hook for the bias wight is the version without the loop and has does not have a pully so I’m wondering if I’m missing that
Unfortunately I can offer nothing practical. From the ‘What are you listening to’ thread I know that @Martin.M uses a hadcock so he may be able to help. My own Hadcock only had one outrigger.
Yes I have a 228, it’s an early one so not too sure what changes have been made relevant to yours. The box and all instructions I have are packed away, but I am just out of hospital so not in the best shape! Give me a day or 2 and I will dig them out and see if there is anything that may be of help.
Martin.
SNAP…. I also used the GH228 with the Lentek Entre1, and its outboard step up device powered by a 9V battery.
Here is what I have. Now mine is a 228 Super Uni-Lift Mk III from 1978, so I am not sure about the compatibility with yours, but hopefully it is of some use for you. ![]()
I take it that you have the different bias weights, spacers etc.
Martin.
Thanks for digging this out Martin
The bias system is more like the second photo with the hanging by a thread weight, albeit there is no loop at the end of item 16. I purchased my unit circa 1981. I suspect the weights on the outriggers are for tweaking the VTA so the headshell can remain aligned with the housing item 3. Seems Hadcock couldn’t stop tweaking
Ahh, OK I see what you mean. Here is what mine looks like in that area. Unfortunately I am not technically gifted to advise any further. I am actually scared to touch it and any work has all been done by Ross the techy guy at my dealer! Though I cant help but think there has to be a boffin out there somewhere who can help!
Martin.
