If you believe Bishop Usher today is earth’s birthday.
In the words of the late, great Spike Milligan, when he comes across a five million year old skull in one of the Goons episodes: Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Earth, happy birthday to you.
According to Wikipedia about 40% of the US population will be with Bishop Ussher, give or take a number of years.
50% of the population have an IQ under 100. So nothing surprises me other than the world functions at all.
Perhaps the most intelligent species, but surely the most stupid and capable of having incredibly ridiculous beliefs.
I find it amazing that the species that colonised Earth after it was born, presumably from other worlds, brought with then the fossilised remains of not only their ancestors but other species of animals and plant.
That, really, says it all!
No wonder all the Dolphins left….! ![]()

I thought the planet was about 13 billion years old…
A says: This fossil is 5 million + 3 years old
B says: How do you know?
A says: I was told it was 5 million years old and that was 3 years ago
Universe 13 billion (from the big bang)
Earth a few billion
My single favorite Goon Show line.
From “Inherit the Wind,” a somewhat lightly fictionalized account of the Scopes Monkey Trial. Usher is discussed about 4:20 in.
Maybe he got the year wrong but not the date.
1/365 chance he got it right.
[Not really sure what date means with different observers in general relativity]
