HDX - has it wi-fi..?

As per title, I’ve just installed my HDX but I can’t find a way to set the wi-fi. Does it only work via Ethernet?
Thanks,
Max

Yep. Wired Ethernet only.

Although the HDX isn’t set up for wi-fi, you can easily use a wireless access point, such as an Apple AirPort Express, connected to a network switch, with the HDX connected to the same switch.

That’s assuming the Airport Express can easily pick up your router.

That’s more or less the setup I had, before I decided to wire directly from router to switch.

Hope this is of some help.

james,
dave,

Thanks, I have a disconnected Ethernet socket available on the wall just behind the HDX, it will be easy to have it connected by a tech.

Or just get one of these from Amazon for 23 quid. I used one for almost 15 years:

Interesting, thanks. What is it?

Found, thanks.

Bear in mind that the bridge needs a decent wifi signal to work effectively. If it does it’s a nice simple solution. That said, an ethernet cable wired to your router is likely to be more reliable.

The modem is in the same room, in sight, and the speed is normally 100+ Mb/second. It should work fine.
The Ethernet connection is obviously needed for CD metadata and for Internet Radio but luckily not for actual music replay from the internal SSD (the HDX has been modified to a 480G SSD, hopefully by an authorized or at least competent technician…).

You also need network connection if you want to control your music via the nServe app, but there is also the touch screen and remote available to select albums. The HDX is very flexible and far less phone dependent than more modern streamers.

Thanks. I already have the nServe app on the Mac and the iPad. I’ve contacted a friend technician, if I can’t have the Ethernet socket wired - it’s just behind the HDX - I’ll check the wifi-LAN bridges. I also wish I could erase the tons of music that came already on the HDX. Why do some people believe that quantity is always a fine replacement for quality?

There is a way to delete files, using the nServe on the Mac, or the Windows desktop client. My UnitiServe is long gone so I can’t check, but it’s there somewhere. That’s not particularly helpful I know, but at least it can potentially be done.

Thanks. I must now get used to the new machine. As soon as I’ll have it connected to the Network I’ll study the system.

So far I’ve just compared the analogue output (lavender) with the digital one into the SN’s own DAC.
As per my previous experiences (ND5 XS2/files on the Mac), the voice of an HD-based player seems marginally cleaner and, at the same time, marginally more ‘generic’ than good CD replay. I guess it’s partially due to a CD player’s efforts to optimize the imperfect, on-the-fly reading of the disc.

It seems to be a Vonets Vap11g Wireless Bridge Adaptor, I think… Google told me.

About GP£29-00 on eBay.

Because we are in the world of the all-you-can-eat buffet

I think it’s actually more than ‘all-you-can-eat’. It’s ‘you-have-to-swallow-it-because-it’s-there’.
 but also :face_vomiting: and also :hear_no_evil:
