Help, I destroyed my Rega cartridge

Just doing some routine cleaning and accidentally touched the Rega Ania …

Any thoughts if this can be repaired?

You’ll need a new cartridge. Rega may offer a trade in.

Thanks, I’m pretty sick of this …

Did you have the needle cover on when you did that?

No, I did not do that unfortunately

Ouch maybe a expensive repair,
I don’t know, ive only just stepped up to this level,
Rega needles do seem rather delicate
Sorry for you loss,

They are terribly vulnerable. When I had my Apheta on the P10, sitting on its wall shelf it was almost like it was saying ‘break me’. The little stylus guard is very fiddly so I never used it. I’m sure Rega do a trade in thing.

The needle cover is a pain the ass I agree,
Yes Rega can repair or trade cart,
This one one questions I asked before I brought mine,
At what cost I have no idea
Best ask the dealer where you got it from

Rega’s cartridge trade in scheme is much more generous than is usual. Comiserations, many of us have been there.

I feel your pain @Klout10
I did exactly the same with my first DV-20X2, it’s a gut churner. At least in my case i could trade in for another one with a discount. I hope you can do the same.

Were you cleaning the deck or the stylus?

This happens quite often with a variety of cartridges and TTs. I gave up on stylus cleaning. Too risky for me. I feel for the OP. This is the price one pays for high end vinyl playback. If one can’t afford the price of admission, don’t go there. I am currently using an Exact. I don’t play vinyl often, even though I have what others would consider a good vinyl playback setup. It’s not playing that is the issue. I have difficulty getting the LP in/out of the jacket/sleeve. I have an NCVTT and a P9. When my Exact dies, I will move to MC. Streaming and CD are much easier for me. Particularly streaming.

I was cleaning the furniture on which the TT was standing and accidentally touched the cartridge with the back of my hand. Dropped the dealer a note and will see what they can do …

Cleaning is dangerous! More styli are damaged cleaning than playing.
I never cleaned my LP12 for years.

I similarly damaged my Ania badly and Rega did the repair at what I thought reasonable cost and now have new stylus. So not did not feel all lost as it was about 4 years old. But feel the pain….

Maybe worth checking your home insurance policy. Many cover accidental damage and possibly on a ‘new for old basis’.

I recently did something similar to my Alpheta 3 and my dealer sent it back to Rega for repair. It was away for about weeks and the dealer set everything up on its return.

You really need to look at whether filing a claim will generate increased insurance costs that might be greater than the cartridge replacement cost.

£288 for a rebuild by rega.

I did the same to my Apheta 3, £500 or so for a re-build.
It was an expensive mistake.
