That’s odd. Any old classic systems I’ve had have been dead silent through the speakers with the mute engaged. The new classic has a different mute design so the hiss is always there even with the mute engaged.

Okie dokie experiment completed,
42.5 - HC - 160
In mute position volume down, hard to hear hiss,
Volume all the way round loud hiss,

Normal position no hiss,
Volume all the way, no hiss,

Conclusion :person_shrugging:

Oh and that’s not a power supply it’s a
Bluetooth receiver

Feedback is usually more of a howling sound when the system is playing. There is a normal amount of hiss/ noise from the system when it is switched on and nothing is playing. If the volume control is all the way down, You may still hear some hiss if you put your ear close to to the speaker but that is normal. When I was using naim- I’d lower volume completely, use the mute and switch to an unused input each time so that it is unlikely to ever start at the wrong volume even if there is an unlikely power glitch or re-set.

I have original classic and mute has never killed the hiss.

Mine never hissed or hummed. but, the other day, I walked in the ‘man cave’’, and it was humming!
Had a quick check round the back and noticed my Xbox plug wasn’t fully in the socket… pushed it in and the humming stopped…

Must be an earthing thing?
