Hi Line cable Failure

I don’t know. My listening room is HVAC controlled environment year round. Now they sit in a box in the closet. Hopefully, that prevents further breakage.

I imagine the very fact a manufacturer gives a free repair regardless speaks volumes.
See what I did there.

I’ve had free repairs from both Linn and Naim; both were second-hand items.

I did get a free repair from Ford but that was because they damaged the fascia while doing another repair. And I had to insist it was their fault to as they initially denied it was them.

I had to explain and show to the service manager why a sharp edged ECU dangling on the soft plastic fascia had made indents.

Naim on the other hand did repairs on my 11 year old NDAC that I wasn’t aware was faulty.

Okay, that explains the descrepancy. I don’t use a dealer, as I buy-sell all of my Naim gear 2nd hand. I wouldn’t want to try to take advantage of a dealer just to get the repair done, as I wouldn’t be giving them any other business.

I do not know how I have been so lucky having owned a Hi-Line for several years and have not had a problem. It has been handled through several system cleanings and upgrades.

Yahoo… Life is Sweet!

My dealer has handled all my Naim, whether I bought from them or not. That’s part of being a Naim dealer. You handle service for the gear you sell, but also the gear you don’t.

My HiLine cables were purchased secondhand on an auction site, but my dealer was still happy to help facilitate the repair. I reimbursed them $20 for outbound shipping.

That’s great, but I don’t have a local “my dealer”. I wouldn’t feel comfortable asking a new-to-me dealer to handle it, despite no past or future business with them.

It’s part of the contract with Naim. They won’t be offended in the slightest.

I see. Okay, good to know.

Naim dealers are expected to help all Naim customers. Not just their own. The smart ones do it happily, knowing a good service experience might translate into future business.

Any meaningful response from Naim at all?
They really should come up with Lumina Light and ditch this half baked design.

If you are in the U.S. there is a Lumina Light. It’s called AV Options Deep Cryo.

Seriously though. I bought a AVO DIN-4-5 and just started using it on my Superline/SCDR. Chris West tells me to give it about 150 hrs. to run in.

So they basically sounds like a Hiline?

Some have said an AVO cable fully run in kicks HiLines ass and is closer to SL. IDK, but it doesn’t have fragile, crappy-ass plastic connectors, so that’s a bonus. Chris West knows what he’s doing.

Have you tried a Super Lumina?

No, and I have no reason to. The prices for them are exorbitant and unreasonable, IMO, at least in the U.S. I have better things to do with that kind of money.

Seems like quite a few of you guys have problems with the hi line … shouldn’t naim address on this issue ? Give me the chill if I ever want to get a hi line cables

I personally will not get another HiLine cable, ever. I regret the two I bought, but at least they were second hand for less than $500, before the price skyrocketed to $1800+ for new ones. For the money AVO is an option (i.e. about $1800). I just started playing mine, and I need some time with it, but I’ve heard from others it’s better and close to SL, and heard from no one that it’s worse.

You realise though that you will sell them, the next person will experience them breaking, sell them and so on and 10 new people will report issues with the HiLine off the same single cable :joy:
