Hi Line cable Failure

It is interesting so far Naim has been silent regarding this issue in this thread.

I wonder if any remedy has been addressed at the factory? or are these incidents are too few and far between amongst the users?

I havenā€™t auditioned any AVO cables, but I just want to point out that the point of the AirPlug is microphonics control. And notably, that part of the design has lived on with the SuperLumina cables (fortunately in aluminum instead of plastic).

Naim doesnā€™t do something like that for no reason, so Iā€™ve always assumed that the microphonics control is part of the magic of the HiLine.

Wish they could come up with other plastic material other than the ones they use in the current hiline. Something more durable but does not cost as much as SuperLumina.

I am certain that the reason they switched to metal in Super Lumina is to address Hi Lineā€™s failing. What other cable costing the same has a potential to fall apart within a year in a normal use? Not acceptable.

They should address itā€¦ one too many

Once I have my funds and ship it I couldnā€™t care less.

I am changing my Superline (and DIN4-5) next year to a different brand phono-stage anyway.

Pls write your name or any form of indication itā€™s your cable , so we guys here wonā€™t happen to get your cables :rofl::rofl::rofl:

You are right. When it is off to Naim for repair it introduces no microphonics into the system whatsoever. Good point.

I have one, which now has about 50 hours on it. It sounded better than a HiLine from the start, and continues to improve in tiny increments, week by week. Definitely the best cable upgrade Iā€™ve made.

What makes you think Naim read these threads or any other on the forum.

Because Naim opened the forum specifically to get unvarnished opinions from the wider community. We think the forum is a service provided for us. Itā€™s the other way around. We are the product and they are the consumer. Itā€™s 50% market research and 50% a Naim Support Centre where none of the support staff are paid a penny (though at times itā€™s clear you get what you pay for  ).

Hey, so Boulder phono worked out for you?

Hereā€™s the kink.
Hiline does not sound the same cable to cable!
I have heard some daf ones along with a very good one. I understand that there might be some sample to sample variance but Itā€™s always iffy what you get with Hiline. ( same goes for the Powerlines and lavender cables, btw. )

So itā€™s possible that you had not so good HiLine to start with.

I am glad that AV Option cables are working for you tho. I would love to demo one. Their cables are made by one of the best cable maker in the US ( Shout out to Steve Kregling! ) :+1:

Well Iā€™d think that Richard at least skim through the thread.
You know if Julian was alive he would be all over this.

As far as I know (which is not a lot) Richard doesnā€™t work for Naim.

I know. But I am sure that he would red flag any worry some posts to the appropriate party at the HQ.

Dream on.

The Boulder 1108 is outstanding. I have a Superline/SCDR with Powerline, HiLine, and Z-foil Airplug. The Boulder with just half decent cables using XLR adapters smokes my Superline with all its goodies. I plan to buy it next year sometime.

The Superline is a great phono, but I need two inputs now.

Ah cool. Does your tone arm has balanced (XLR) ends?
A bit of inconvenience as it did not provide any RCA plugs albeit they convert to unbalanced.
Recently I had an opportunity to listen to its predecessor 1008 in a familiar system and found it is a departure from Naimā€™s house sound indeed.

P.S. Out of a recent phono stage I got to hear what impressed me was Thrax Orpheus phono out of Bulgaria. Price wise itā€™s comparable to the Boulder and the soundwise I did not go yuck.

My tonearms have single-ended (RCA) termination. Boulder provided specially wired phono adapters for the demo (it comes with one set and they sent a second pair for me). They are not regular RCA->XLR adapters.

Once I have the Boulder I will have my tonearms terminated for balanced connections. Musical Surroundings (the U.S. Clearaudio distributor) already told me they can do that with a pretty quick turnaround.

I currently have a HiLine DIN4-5 and the AVO DIN4-5 cables. I plan to keep the HiLine so I can include it when I am ready to move the Superline on. Chris West at AVO told me heā€™ll accept my AVO DIN 4-5 on trade and fashion a set of XLR stereo pair to DIN5 cable for an upcharge.
