You mean PowerLine I assume. There is no HiLine power cable. The PowerLine doesn’t have the connectors that break so easily.
Yes it’s power line , my mistakes
It’s almost a month now still waiting for the resolution from naim support , only getting replies from them they are following up with the dealer but still no productive response as such, very frustrating. Sometimes it comes to my mind this is only a cable, what happens if something goes wrong with any of my equipment. Questioning my own decision to go again with naim as there is no dealer here in the country and bought everything from either UK or another country.
Be it just a cable or components , anything that’s bears the name NAIM , they have to be involved to resolve the issue as they have a reputation to keep and upkeep ,especially a good 50 years reputation , unless it’s one’s own mistake on the products .
Ya… without having a dealer does gives some doubts and problems should anything happen to the kits /cables/accessories… hope you will get it resolved soonest as possible
There is no Naim in my country either. All gear from dealer in the UK 6000 miles away.
Over the past 11 years, I’ve had very few issues, but the experience of sending a box back to the UK for a DR upgrade and the just incredible cost of that and the delay was excruciating. That’s not really Naim’s fault though.
Other (but few) issues I’ve had, have been worked out with my dealer and Naim (still via the dealer). But not all of those solutions were for the faint of heart or for those without some training in hifi servicing. Nor do I suspect I’m permitted to mention details here. Based on this, I’m committed to just have the one Naim system (okay I’ve got other bits from before I made this rule for myself) and anything else must be a domestically produced or at least very well locally represented brand.
I had three hilines with my CDS3/XPS and later PS555. All three broke and were repaired by Naim at NC. Sound was great but they were fragile. Surprised Naim has not redesigned due to repair rates.
Yes, it undeniably seems to be mis-engineered considering all the broken ones, sad.
Surely what’s remarkable is that it’s still for sale and at an eye watering price?
Possibly because it tends to be very good, and it’s not all smoke and mirrors like some audiophile cables …
Hi, in the photo it looks to me as if the front plastic ring has slipped out of the plug housing. The same thing happened with my own cable and because in my case the plastic ring itself wasn’t broken, I was able to put it back together very easily. I then fixed the frontmost ring to the connector housing with elastic adhesive tape (see photo) - there was no noticeable difference to me in terms of sound and I haven’t had any trouble with the part since then… The tape is only to ensure the ring does not slip out again…
I might have done just that if the tabs hadn’t broken too.
A few years ago one of the rings towards the cable broke and I taped it up. It was during Covid and I had to wait nearly a year to get a RA for repair. I also didn’t notice any sonic difference.
A broken ring was the case with my first hiline last year. My dealer here in Germany sent it to the german Naim distributor and I received a refurbished item within 14 days! It is the one you see on the photo. It is different from the first one which was packaged in a metal box, the new one came in cardboard box. The plastic rings are fitted with slightly more space inbetween. Probably this prevents them from breaking? And it sounds much more clearer and open compared to the first one. Just for anyone who is interested…
There does appear to be a lot of cantilevered weight / pressure that can be put on the rings.
DG…
Both my HiLines are gone, sold back to my dealer as part of my SuperLine purchase.
Had one repaired already and decided I couldn’t cope with buying another one for the new SuperLine.
NDX2 already has a Chord Epic and the SuperLine should get its Chord Epic this week🤞🏽
Ran it this afternoon with an Epic borrowed from @SimonDC who visited today and decided to go ahead with the Epic over the Lavender loaned by my dealer when he installed it on Wednesday.
Very pleased with the SQ served up by the Epic🙂
If I did it all over again I would get my NDX2 and Superline/SCDR ICs from AVOptions. But I’ll just have to wait for my NDX2 IC to get resolved. As for the Superline, there is a still I change that may go away altogether anyway, in which case I’ll sell the HiLine with it all.
Yes, and I think the whole plug design is much too fragile for the weight of the cable, so this might be the reason for so many Hi Line cables failing. After all this trouble, I would not buy it again…
Besides the collars breaking once, my cable jacket have degraded - sticky to the touch.
If it works to stabilise the rings using tape, then maybe we should do this as a preemptive, preventative measure?
Does the tape glue make a mess of the rings?
Anchoring the rings to the end fitting with tape surely undoes the decoupling the design is intended to perform…
