Sid accompanies his hifi fanatic friend Les to an audition of a new system. Having listened to one at length with different music, they were just two or three tracks into the second system when Les said: “This is it, I’ll get this one.”
Sid: “What makes you say that? They sound exactly the same to me - the other one is much cheaper, but at least wouldn’t it be better to hear the other tracks before deciding?”
Les: “That’s just your untrained ears. I thought they sounded the same at first but then I realised even with my more refined ears I wasn’t hearing all this second system is revealing. Look at the salesman, who of course is very experienced as he listens to so many systems all the time: His foot has been tapping so much more with this system, clearly he’s hearing beats between the ones even I can hear. And on the last track his foot started tapping wildly a second before I heard anything at all!”
I have a DVD-R of Dark Side of the Rainbow that was given to me years ago. It’s definitely interesting and fun, I still occasionally drag it out for shits and giggles. I don’t believe there was any intent by Pink Floyd to connect the two, just a happy coincidence. Worth trying if you can de bothered, it can be found on You tube.
