High End Munich 2023

Nr. 21 Part 2 Avatgarde Acoustic

Happy for the response so I can continue.
For Jim Kahn the bass seemed a bit prominent in the mix, but accross the songs so far good details.

Last song I heard was Vollenweider. I questioned a bit the 100% tonal accuracy, had the feeling for this piece it was a bit colored, but might also have been my ears, or a wrong audio memory.

Will return again tonight with an impressive show presence of Linn……

Thanks for the sharing Bert.

Please do continue. Interesting reads.

Thanks for the report @BertBird, I’m enjoying it.

Nr. 22 Part 1 Linn

Linn was for me also a bit of a surprise. I know them of course well from multiple demos at shows and my dealer. But this time they had something special with their new 360 speakers. And that was indeed a special experience.

Before getting into it. The Linn demo is as such always also a pleasure because of the people responsible for the demo. It makes a difference how things are presented, and they do a good job.

It started with Mogwai - a nice airy sound, with an absolutely amazing soundstage. The soundstage was even expanding to the right of me sitting at the right of the room, and was quite possibly everywhere quite expansive, so not so focussed to on one or two spots in the audience, really nice experience.

Nr 22 Part 2

Marcus Miller also sounded good, while Naim would most probably have a bit more slam.
Scottisch Chamber Orchestra, this system is made for that type of music. Is even more beautiful given the air and the soundstage.
Arab Strab - would have desired a bit more emotionality or rawness.
Angus and Julia Stone, again a very nice sound coming from Linn….

What is of course an additional bonus of such a system is that including turntable you need only two boxes. While Naim would require a multitude of that….

Nr. 23 PMC

They played some flamingo music on small prodigy 5 speakers, it sounded nice for the size of the speakers. I didn’t stay longer as it didn’t interest me so much.

Nr. 24 Part 1

Gauder Akustik. Always one of my more favorite rooms as they have great speakers. In the past it was even more enjoyable as they had Thomas Hintze doing the DJ job, and he was great in presenting the music. Unfortunately he is not used anymore, or perhaps not willing anymore.

The start was with Al Di Meola, sounding fantastic

Nr 24 part 2 Gauder Akustik…

Lari Basilio played a great cover of man in the mirror, will have to explore her a bit further.
Brian May the emotion of the song came good accross…
Thrisya Yearwood, nice sound
For Malia and John Williams, it also displayed good control of the sound.

Nr. 24. Part 3 Deep Purple

The last one of day 1 was a well known one. It’s always funny how the German hifi demo guys present this type of music …. They talk with glowing eyes that now they will let it “Krachen” as if they are doing something illegal…… and funny enough they never put the volume so hard that it really is “Krachen” and anyhow while great music it’s not hard as compared to something like Opeth early years, Pamin of Salvation or Between the Burried and me……

Nr. 25 Part 1 Wilson Audio with Constellation

Had a short while before the scheduled Burmeister demo started to listen into this great system. A real big system, which will also be quite costly again…

Nr. 25 - Part 2

They started with Renaud Garcia-Fons, absolutely sounding great. Also Daft Punk sounded great also at quite a volume level. Unfortunately I needed to get quickly to the Burmeister demo.

I need soon again a reply to be able to continue with the thread, so please…

Nr. 26 - Part 1 Burmeister…

In recent years I think Burmeister has made a great development in its sound signature. In the past I always appreciated the technology and the ability to hear details etc. but the sound was always missing a certain warmth and emotionality, this has changed, and the sound at all levels is now more accessible.

They had at display some of their entry level components and some components on the next level in their range.

Speakers were the B38’s. And then the main piece of the demo was the new 232 integrated amplifier which is build up like two mono blocks. Depending on your needs you can get it with phono module and or streaming module.

Nr. 26 Part 2 Burmeister

They started with the Minnesota orchestra. Enough grip and dynamics, while a bit edgy in the high end. I belief the amplifier is the strongest component in the chain, and the other components are the weaker ones.

Dominique Fils - nice overall sound, while missing some of the details, also soundstage could be a bit better/more expansive.
The Decemberist nice earthy sound, unfortunately they had sometimes a bit of noise in the streaming, I guess the wifi was disturbed.
With Boz Scaggs it could have sounded a bit more decisive….

As mentioned before please respond otherwise I can’t continue as it has a limit of 8 posts by the same person… and I can again create 8 new ones after a response.

Really enjoying your report on the show @BertBird … thanks!

Nr. 27 Part 1 D’Agostino, Wilson Audio, DCS, and Stromtank

Before I start describing this. Let me explain this room. They had four systems setup in the room and after a couple of numbers switched to the other ones and at some point came back again. As always with this firm, they have great systems, but the room setup is less than ideal…., still a great system even sounds decent in a less ideal room.
When I came the champions league hymns was playing, but I will also have that again in the next post. Absolutely stunning system of course. With Eric Clapton it showed how capable the system was. I guess if you have that at home assuming you have the space you should be happy.

What was odd. As happens people have a close by look at the speakers and make perhaps a close up picture. But the demo guy was very aggressive in keeping people away from the speakers, it was a bit as slapstick as it happened a couple of times while I was in the room.

A bit a pity that I can’t upload a video as it would give you a great impression, will be even more a pity later on with Tad as I had a couple of short videos.
So after listening to the three other systems in the same room, we came back again to the biggest one in the room.

It started with Air of Bach but I couldn’t find the specific version via Shazam. The Canon next was very nice while I would like to hear the solo voice a bit more prominent. But interesting is that you hear some foundations in the low end which you don’t hear in most systems. So if this one is well positioned and calibrated it will sound amazing. Again the champions league hymne…., this is anyhow a difficult piece to have sounding nice, but anyhow I found some things to edgy…

Again Clapton and ending with Queen…, find the bass a bit too much booming. The other system in the room is a bit better adapted to the room or better positioned. But he, an incredibly capable system which should sound magically when you have the space and the right setup and room acoustics are created.

Nr. 28 Part 1 D’Agostino and Perlistener

Again in the same room as the big systems, this was system Nr. 2

The speakers were a nice surprise. They sounded quite engaging. Obviously enough amplification, but nevertheless hadn’t expected it.

First Castelucci - good lows, nice warming sound.
Friend ‘n Fellow authority in the presentation is quite good
Rufus de Sol - nice to listen, perhaps not all details audible but an engaging listening….
