And this is reality for the majority I expect. Aside from those with a dedicated listening room, we have to fit it all in with the rest of the house & family. Looking at some of the system pictures its clear some have done a pretty good job of optimising. However whilst fireplaces, doors & windows are immovable objects, its often that cabinets, TV’s & suchlike are also “immovable” in some domestic situations.
Sopra-3s 7.5 feet apart, about 4 feet from front wall(measured from driver faces), very slight toe-in. Listen about 8 feet from speaker tweeters
I have PMC 25.26 which are about 9 feet apart, and the listening position about 12 feet back from them.
NBLs 8 feet apart centre to centre no toe in, 2 1/4” from wood to wall behind them (so less where skirting board and crossover protrude) and 11” from left sidewall which falls away after 29” into a 45” deep bay window and 11” from where the right side wall would be if there wasn’t a 19” deep alcove there which I’ve recently filled with records now the CDs have emigrated. Roghly 10 1/2’ from plane of front baffles to my ears when seated on a sofa with a high and deep back that touches the wall behind it.
My other speakers are 1172km away by road and ferry according to ViaMichelin.
Mine are just over 6 feet apart with some 8/9 feet from hot spot. Reference 3A speakers that I’m using are known for firing out square with the gate swing of sweetness for best results. I find them best toed in towards an imaginary spot some 3 metres behind my point of hearing.
Having a severe baffle angle, they are quite easy to dial in to get that centre vocal test. Also due to no crossover, vocals have the appropriate height and still with that sense of chest and body.
PMCs on the Nova are 1.3m apart tweeter to tweeter, B&Ws on the olives are 1.6 apart. Both are 3.2m to listening position (coincidentally).
1172km apart made me laugh
Just spent the past week adjusting my Titan 707’s.
Dealer had installed them up against the wall in place of my previous SBLs.
They now sit 12” in front and 6ft 2” apart tweeter to tweeter with no toe in.
My sitting position is 11ft away.
They work very well close to the wall but I did find they work best a bit closer together then I first thought to get the sound centered.
Do have lots of holes in the carpet now
Now can forget about them and enjoy the music again.
Keltiks 340cm appart and 380cm baffle to ear. Set to energise room and no “hole” in stereo spread.
SBL in 27m2, 1.68m apart box to box and 5cm against the rear wall.
Listening position at 3.60m
