How good are Nac A5 cables?

In Holland 55 euro per meter, in 2005 the price was only 12 euro per meter the good old times.

I’m just about to change some cable over on my bedroom Arivas. Since a new pair of SA8s is about Ā£30 these days, is desoldering the old cable out of the existing SA8s and resoldering the new in as straightforward as one might expect? Or is there some issue I should be aware of beforehand?

fyi Naca5 takes ages to run-in so S/H defo better imho…

Thanks, prices increase like a rocket it seems, I dare not ask for SuperLumina.:money_mouth_face:

Thanks everyone for your responses. The used Nac A5s came today. I removed the plastic caps off the Naim plugs at speaker ends. Only managed to listen to a couple of tracks so far(we have a 12 WO puppy who doesn’t get in my listening room!). Hard to make any conclusions vis a vis the VDH Clearwaters as a result. I’ll update again once I’ve used them some more.

Mentioned this before, and I’m not being a fanboy either, but several years ago we went round the houses with what we thought were improvements, especially Chord. We put the A5 back in after about a year. It’s still there, maybe it’s an olive SBL synergy?

Naca 5 are fantastic either with CB and OC series. S. Lumina with 500 system is better but not night & day

Resoldering old plugs should be fine. A solder sucker of some sort to remove as much old solder as possible will help.

Well I wouldn’t fret.. I compared superlumina with naca5 .. it was the naca5 for me I kept.
As I said above … silver in cables rarely works well with audio… in my opinion of course… but clearly many do like silver plated copper .. and the best of luck to them

I agree. Same conclusion(s) here many times, regardless of what cable, low level signal or high level cables… silver just takes things that little bit too far…:+1:

Well it’s the non linearities caused by the different metals offering different propagation and conductivity for different parts of the audio band. Now it appears superlumina uses many different copper core diameters and no doubt high quality silver plating to mitigate some of the issues.. but to me it can’t address spoiling the natural balance. Sure it will help provide an aural illusion of more detail.. just like adding hf eq….. but I’ll say no more as I don’t want to antogonise anyone… and after all it’s all about personal tastes rather than lab neutrality.. and some of us are more sensitive to certain frequencies than others.

Interesting - thanks

It really does hold things together.

Naca5 is definitely the way to go - I have it on my Nait 5i and Supernait 3 - as previously said, the Naim amps and cable are designed to work together. Make sure you get min 3.5m x 2.

Some day soon, I will try another cable though, just to see the difference - I know for having tried qed, MIT and Audioquest cables with my former Found Songs Alpha 9 how MUCH they make your system sound differently.

It appears that Tellurium Q Black II is a great alternative and is highly electrically compatible, like the Naca5.

BTW, your Nait 5i is a great amp that will sound fan-tas-tic with the Naca5!!!

Can properly soldering make or break the difference?

No question about it. :scream:
If it’s not as good as this then forget it.

It’s almost as if it was designed to work with Naim kit…
