I’ve been a silent reader on this forum for a long time and have gained a lot of valuable information from it, so thank you all for that.
I’m now assembling my first fraim. Richard Dane’s instructions were very helpful, but I can’t hear any difference when tapping on the glass.
However, I do hear quite a noticeable difference when listening to music. One orientation sounds darker and fuller, with the vocals set further back in the soundstage. The other sounds brighter, with leaner bass and the vocals more forward.
I’d recommend polishing both sides of the glass, then picking it up by the edges place it on top of the ball bearings. Then tap it briskly with knuckle of your middle finger. One way up it will ring (‘dong’). This is what you are aiming for. When it’s the wrong way up you’ll hear a dull ring (‘donk’).
This is the famous dong/donk test. It does work, honestly. Best of luck.
Tong or Tonk, held or suspended, it’s usually quite easy to tell, although a couple of mine were virtually identical: critical listening mode engaged revealed the difference!
Short answer to the topic header: just plain damn right with eminent boogie factor and whole world sorted vibes!
I found tapping the glass in the centre using the middle finger fingernail gives the best interpretation once the glass has been cleaned (astonish) placed on well polished ball bearings and handled only by the edges of the glass whilst placing insitu.
