I need an amp for my focals

hey I’m new here thanks for having me. i have a pair of focal aria evo x no2 and i need a amp i also have a speedwoofer 10s. my friend wants to sell me his musical fidelity m6si for 1,500. im wondering should I go with sometjing else like Naim. I’m new to the hobby so help would be appreciated thanks. I’m in the USA

Hi,
welcome!
Your Focals are 91.5 dB sensitive and have a minimal impedance of 2.9 ohms. Basically, it means that your speakers will sound loud with not many watts, but the amp needs to be stable on a low load.
I don’t know the MF M6, but for what I know of Focal midlevel designs, you need an amp with tight and tuneful bass and with refined high range.
Naim is always a good match for Focal, and a 2nd hand Nait XS2 or 3 could be a good choice.

I wouldn’t say “could be”, the XS2 absolutely is a very good choice.
I have a friend with an XS2+HiCap DR paired with the Aria 936’s. It sounds a very balanced system and has your feet tapping with all types of music. Being able to really take full control of the bass with oodles of power in reserve is the key with Focal speakers.
It was his choice of the 936’s that made me have a look at the Sopra N2’s and i’m very glad i did. I’m sure that the XS3 would be a good choice as well, but a pre loved XS2 along with a pre loved HiCap DR will be much cheaper option.

Of all the Naim/Focal systems I’ve heard I would say never! I do have to concede that last year I heard a New Classic 200 series system with some quite expensive Focals that sounded very good, but all the older Naim/Focal systems I’ve listened to were non-starters for me.

For about 10 years I have enjoyed a pair of Focal Electra 1028 Be floor standing speakers. Until recently these were driven by a Cyrus amplifier using high quality digital sources mostly derived from my vinyl collection. Technics/Panasonic recently reduced the price of their unusual SU-G700M2 digital amplifier and after a somewhat pointless demo I took a chance and bought this.

Their was plenty of difference in the sound and a definite increase in the level of excitement. This combination leaves no hiding place for minor nuances of recording quality and in particular it gives more precise image placement of each instrument and vocal. Sometimes this is uncanny when new things are discovered in tracks that I though I knew so well.

Although I haven’t listened to recent Naim amps I previously felt they were often a bit too “civilized” for my musical taste. The Technics and Focal combination is certainly not that!

At least a couple more owners of the Technics SuG700 m2 on here who really rate the amp. Like you say it is a very transparent amp with a lovely soundstage and manages to pull of the neutral presentation without being boring.

Ive got mine into Guru 12’s and have it seems to have an effortless amount of scale and dynamics.

I don’t really know.. But at PeaceOfMind level, I think it is.

Thats harsh..
Way back I’ve heard a single combination with some old Focals (or was it JM Lab ?) amplified by 112/150/FC.
It was ok, not the analytical presentation of the latest Focals but a smooth, not very revealing sound.

Especially the Sopra range, which I’ve heard on several Naim amplication, is non-starter for me, leaving the room quick is the generel.

A pity really, as its hard to find a good Naim demo in my region, serious loudspeakers like Kudos, Neat, ATC, Ophidian, Graham etc.. combined with NC amplication is a rarity, unfortunately.
