Don’t fix it.
I have an Olive Hicap/82/140 set up in a bedroom powering an elderly set of Rega’s floorstanding Kytes (EL8). The speakers get a bit boomy as the volume is turned up but are ideal for bedroom music ( stop sniggering at the back). So good in fact that larger and more capable speakers can’t compete in this room at low volumes. (Another thread could explore minimum volume before a speaker comes alive).
I decided to replace the hicap with a spare supercap sitting in the guest bedroom. The supercap and this 82 has been used previously with different speakers in larger rooms. Disaster! The supercap had done its job admirably and added more bass to the sound but these el8’s now sound boomy even at low volumes. I’ve removed the second rail connection temporarily to restore order but the hicap will have to swap back in.
I must resist meddling in future, there is sometimes a synergy that shouldn’t be disturbed.

Great advice. Also, sometimes things work by accident. My Spendor A4s and now my D7.2 work marvelously in my difficult room. This was without a home audition. In the case of the D7.2, there was no dealer audition either. The dealer’s staff was very familiar with my space and I trusted them. Disability precluded dealer audition for the D7.2

EL8’s are great little speakers - I just can’t imagine them booming. Maybe a positioning thing.
