I’m going to be helping out a Naim newbie by phone tomorrow to set up a Muso 1. She’s not an audiophile so this need to be step by step. Is the setup procedure for a Naim 1 using the app the same as for the Muso 2?
A couple of specific questions. The unit is not new, so I probably want to start with a reset. What is the reset for a Muso 1?
I recall setup can be done by plugging in an iPhone. My sense is not to touch that method with a 10 foot pole.
Is the manual online somewhere?
By the way, AI told me to go to a site where I could download the manual. Like an ass, I did so, and was promptly advised that a virus had infected my computer. I believe that was simply to get me to pay for an unnecessary repair, but I am in the process of running a complete scan of my system.
There isn’t a manual, rather a quick start guide in the box. She will need the Naim app on her phone to set it up. Reset is done by turning it on and poking a paper clip in the little hole in the back and pushing until a click is felt. Setup is plain sailing from there. The app will guide her through. Maybe the answer is for her to call me!!
I’d better not link to the Naim Reference Manual but there’s a PDF Sevenoaks have put on line. Just google ‘naim muso 1 reference uk’
I used an ethernet cable to connect to my router - when you have established connection, you won’t need the cable. The wifi connection isn’t so strong on Gen 1 muso.
Bear on mind that the 1st gen Musos used 802.11g WiFi, a rather ancient version first released in 2003. It may work fine, but it may not. Be prepared to have that ‘you need an Ethernet cable’ conversation.
That could just about work in theory, but the plasticky little remotes supplied with the Musos aren’t great, Bluetooth cuts out when you leave the room with your phone in your pocket, you can’t update the firmware, and it won’t sound as good.
Don’t you have to keep it pressed for 10 secs? Just pushing it and feeling a click doesn’t strike me as right (but I haven’t reset a muso gen 1 myself).
I’ve participated in two threads about this behavio[u]r. I first attributed the bug to Google Home as the names used in that app and the Naim app are linked, and I’ve had a variety of issues with Google Home. But after someone using Apple Home reported the problem I thought maybe it’s a bug in the Naim app.
