You would
I think those still on 3.8 never ever will upgrade no matter what is said about the coming software version. Only an AB test at home would convince them doing so.
Fair point Blackbird although Iāve recently heard that 3.12 will appeal to the more analogue sound seekers like Drago and myself to name but two. Looking positive
Do you know if this apply to NSS 333 too? I havenāt heard it pre the latest version but I think some have said it made a similar journey as ND555.
I donāt know. It seems logical to think that it would though! Fingers crossed
From the NDS thread, āOne of the changes in the latest firmware for the āStream Unlimitedā based streamers is to remove the web admin portalā.
If Naim go ahead with this because of, you know, āsecurityā and donāt provide an option for us to enable it, I do hope they have fully thought through potential consequence.
Currently it is the only method we have of making our Naim streamers sound decent.
3.12 is going to need to be a miracle in the making if this is the trade off.
I donāt think they have much choice in the matter as, IIRC, 3rd party security tests identified the web interface as a potential security vulnerability which needed to be closed.
Itās also worth noting that while some of the settings could possibly make a change to the electrical environment within, Iām told that others do absolutely nothing on certain products such as the stand-alone streamers, with no electrical or software change taking place whatsoever (HDMI for example).
As for what, if any, additional settings, Naim might provide above what already exists, we shall have to see when it appears.
n.b Another interesting little tidbit that was gleaned from the recent visit to Naim was that it would appear Naim are possibly one of the few (or perhaps even unique?) in actually bothering to go through listening tests and fine tuning with their firmware releases. Firmware changes will always have some sort of influence on the performance in some way, regardless of the maker, so I thought that was really quite interesting to hearā¦
That could make some people very unhappy that currently use the web-client to change settings that are not available in the app. I decided to stop tinkering with settings in the web-client and only use the app to change settings.
I hope the diagnostics page remains. I use that sometimes to see how the streamer is doing, which WiFi channel it is using and the bit-rate information etc.
The Diagnostics are still there, but the Webclient, as Richard says, is gone.
Any changes you made via that interface are kept after update to 3.12 but you cannot alter those ahead.
A Factory Reset will restore those settings back to default, for those that want to do that ahead.
Thanks for the information.
I wish none of us had any need to adjust the settings to get near the SQ we are used from before. Closing this window could make it even more uncomfortable (to me)⦠3.12 is in need to perform!
Seems like a very good idea for Naim to make certain the options are fully available in the app before doing anything with the interface.
For sure there are settings that do nothing. However, there are settings that are absolutely key to getting the best out of the streamer that should remain accessible ā¦
Debug
naim_host > Wifi Enabled
multiroomClient
multiroomMaster
Inputs & Sources
USB > Disable Input
USB > Front Connector Usage
USB > Rear Connector Usage
Internet Radio > Disable Input
plus quality of life options (why are these still not available in the app?):
User Interface
Display Intensity > Off, Low, Medium, High
Recently Played
Then, despite what we are ātoldā, there is the effect of other settings many refer to.
With regard to listening to updates, no excuses or PR will bridge the gap from where we were with 3.8.x, only a very good release.
Thanks !
While it may make some people unhappy, I see this change as wholly positive. Once they have got used to the idea, hopefully they will be able to just enjoy the music without the stress of fiddling around under the bonnet. Some of the adjustments that people have convinced themselves make a difference arenāt actually connected and are therefore unable to make a difference, so some of the changes for the better literally are in peopleās heads. Itās surprising how strong the power of suggestion can be.
I really hope people donāt stress about all this, it will be fine.
Point given⦠and also fully understand naim. Fiddling with inner settings and telling the world as we did hereā¦
. Naim has to do it to avoid the boxes coming in for repair, because someone has fiddled too much. Agreedā¦
But - simple fact. SQ does not get better, when the interface is closed. With 3.10 on the (till this day) typical organic Naim signature was gone⦠some will prefer the massive soundstage and live with less textures and a bit harshness - others do not. Ears, room and taste ⦠there are variables ![]()

Somehow people just need to let go of the past. 3.8 etc cannot be resurrected. Itās like how people remember summers being warmer when they were children.
Deal⦠itās a leave, love it or change it situation.
Only for protocol: in summer 2024 I was a grown up ![]()
Exactly. Letās all hope that 3.12 sounds really good once it gets released.
This is just your own personal assertion.
I found they did make a difference and being ātoldā in this crass way does not change what was audible to me and others.
DB.
i agree - we were told so many times that there was no problem with the firmware - by other forum users and by naim- even that firmware couldnāt affect SQ. it was only when naim identified the problem with the sounds unlimited firmware that we started to be taken seriously.
it may not be obvious how these settings could affect SQ but that doesnāt mean that they donāt. there may well be circuitous routes that could impact sq. point-blank denials of the possibility get us nowhere. let us just hope that 3.12 will be so good the loss of web-client is irrelevant
If you take, for example, the HDMI input, turning it off on an ND555 or something else without an HDMI input cannot make a difference, as the web interface option isnāt connected to anything, which was confirmed by Naim when I visited recently. So if people think they hear a difference it must surely be in their imagination. Other things, web radio for example, may well make a difference. The mind is a powerful thing; put a more expensive label on a bottle of wine and most people think it tastes better. If people think changing a non functioning button makes things better it doesnāt really matter whether it does or not. Where things get darker is when others pick up on it and start to get really stressed. Removing access to the web client can therefore be seen as a really positive step.
Just think how much time people will save by not endlessly fiddling around. They can use it to listen to music instead. That is, after all, the point of owning a stereo.
