My post concerns the fact you stated when the release won’t happen. IE. 20th of Feb.
Are naim happy for you as a beta tester to advise when it won’t happen.

I really can’t see why not. I certainly appreciate knowing.
It’s frustrating how long this process has taken so far, and it’s so much worse when users are constantly in the dark and left wondering whether it will be ‘any day now’ followed by the feeling of disappointment as weeks and months go by.

It is strange how the human mind works. I have no idea what the new release will bring and still I feel this anticipation. Why on earth is that? I really enjoy my system as it is. Why is my brain looking for a change and something new? My heart says: Stop that

Personally, I’m hoping for SQ that is a hybrid between 3.11 and 3.8 (slightly better depth, density, bass, and tone). I use zero features other than Roon and input switching to Optical for my AppleTV. If that’s all we get, I’m ready to ride off in the sunset.
An important note: Lumin have long employed (and I helped beta) their “Roon Only mode” for their streamers. Using it results in a marked increase in Roon SQ by shutting off all services and features that aren’t tied to core Roon functionality.
For example, Tidal’s service is always running on the NDX 2. BUT, I’ll never use that or Qobuz on the NDX 2; I only use those in Roon.
I would love to see Naim adopt a more modular concept like this in future FW’s.

Can’t your turn the Tidal service off and run Tidal through Roon via UPnP? I can do that with Audivarna, although never compared the SQ with the 2 options. Maybe worth a try.
The Tidal service in the NDX 2 is not able to be turned off. It’s always running.
After optimizing Roon (quality threads on this elsewhere), Roon has been a whole new ballgame.
I’m not a huge Tidal fan (Qobuz preferred), but if I did use it, it would be via Roon and RAAT would be the only interaction between my Roon server and NDX 2.

A modular concept would be nice indeed, I agree. But for me personally it would be a great asset if the future firmware update would include the Audirvāna Linux Core Player…

Ah, OK. So, if I turn off Tidal (or Qobuz) input on NDX2 settings, I wouldn’t be able to stream Tidal from Audivārna? Sorry for being dense.
Why the big delay? Doesn’t inspire confidence after the 3.10 debacle.

There is no delay since Naim didn’t say anything about any 3.12 release. Or am I missing something (this is a genuine question)?

Not exactly. The NDX 2 has native services that on it for Chromecast/Tidal/Qobuz/Radio/etc. It also uses API’s to connect to external features such as Roon and Audirvana.
However, currently, if one elects to use Roon, et al, to run Tidal or Qobuz…the native processes (e.g. “services”) for those same things will still remain running, redundantly. This reduces latency, but also consumes compute power and adds memory pressure on a SOC that isn’t gonna have a big excess margin for either.

To be honest, the 3.10/3.11 changes did leave us thinking our system wasn’t what we had bought/built, but we’ve grown used to 3.11 I guess.
Certainly don’t want to see a massive SQ shift when 3.12 arrives. That would be the death knell for naim streamer as a digital source in this household.

What’s your confidence level the next FW update won’t change SQ or presentation of 333…..
The one good thing about the naim firmware issues and the negative impact on SQ is…. We”ve listened to the competition and know where to go.
I had several re builds to 3.11 with nd555… everytime I did this I was impressed for 30 min and after that it went in the wrong direction.
Going back to nds on 4.8 was a relief every single time I did it. Maybe my memory is stuck on 3.8 sound character or nds delivers this signature (with some slight overall decrease as it is only nds). Only local streaming!
