But I guess it would automatically appear, if you had more than one Naim streaming device. The four squares symbol at the bottom of the screen seems to have disappeared since MR was disabled.
No, you are not the only one that prefers the sound using the Naim app compared to Qobuz Connect. See my post Qobuz connect sound quality vs naim app
I may get shots fired at me for loving the psychological twist in language here. How we respond is a choice even when you consider the external influences or events.
I personally have chosen to enjoy what I have now the issue has been worked through, and I choose to embrace the new world. It seems others have not and that is their choice. However, I am confused at some level by the level of analysis that continues, I embrace experimentation but not to critique but to better enjoy. I know analysis is a badge of honour here but when overplayed it seems to cause frustration and disappointment and criticism.
Whatever our audiophile auditory capacities much of what we remember in HiFi isnât about the sound itself itâs about how the sound made us feel. And memory of feeling is far more persistent than memory of detail. The problem with feelings are that the expectation of something to be different or ânot as goodâ is more powerful than any actual difference.
I
I will continue to fiddle but for enjoyment.
Fiddling can be part of the enjoyment. In my case, when it comes to software settings, it is more about understanding. I am a software engineer and I canât help wanting to understand what goes on under the hood
What does a setting actually do? Without access to the code, there is only one way: fiddle with it and see what the effects are. It is just part of the hobby for me, next to pure musical and emotional enjoyment.
Which is sadly, still missing from the device I purchased⌠![]()
This is exactly what I try to achieve with my system. Itâs all about the emotional connection to the music. As Iâve progressed through various levels of system Iâve tended to have more frequent connections to the music.
This kind of culminated with 3:8 but was lost to a large degree with 3:10. Lots of tweaking and listening to what others had found allowed me to adjust 3:10 to a point where I had a couple of really good sessions.
3:11 has now, at least, re-addressed some of these issue. Itâs not perfect but the emotional connection is definitely a lot more frequent. I suspect there is more to come from 3:11, which is why I continue to listen to others, their tweaks and their many experiences. This is all in the hope of discovering that magic formula that gets me a free seat at a concert every night!
My opinion has always been the 555 was more âshoutyâ. I did listen to it when it first came out and found it definitely more detailed but more HiFi like than my NDS. I felt the NDS was more integrated.
Didnât feel it was overall an improvement, especially for the cost delta. It got good reviews though.
We all have different sensitivities and preferences. Iâm sure itâs great for many but it wasnât for me. Iâve stayed with the NDS, though now loss of radio (or using 4.9) is an issue for me.
We also shouldnât forget that the NDS was the flagship streamer/renderer for statement system demos until the 555 came out, so itâs still no slouch. Thatâs why Iâm a bit frustrated that there seems no interest in getting 4.9 to sound more like 4.8.
Oh donât get me wrong that is my kinda fiddling. I was talking about relentless searching and constant expression of frustrations.
Gone very quite since the switch debate.
People tried it? Doesnât it turn off or does it??? Be interesting to know for sure.
I got this from Naim earlier todayâŚ
âTurning off the inputs in the app primarily hides the input from the top section of the app source selection. For certain inputs, it will hide the input from the inputs list on the front panel of the streamer.
However this is simply done in the application that runs the display. The streamer itself has no change in the back end side of thingsâ.
Iâm not sure I follow. Do you say itâs just a graphical change turning inputs on off and that all inputs are on all the time no matter if you choose input on/off inside the app?
Iâm not saying anything, merely posting what I was told. My reading of it is that all it does is to not show the inputs in the App and that inputs continue to operate.

Now we all have gone mad?
Certainly not - there has been an influence when switching inputs. Maybe not as big as (can only speak for myself) as i initially hoped and felt, but there is an influence.
Naims answer is ⌠is it valid? Not the first time that the comment has been strange - they also postulated that there is no possibility of the fw influencing the sound.
Another topic which will not gain trust in naim.
Very happy to be back to perfect listening experience with nds!
If I turn Digital RCA input off it will disappear from the screen. If I connect a cable to it I wonât know if it is listening/active since I must route the signal to that input by selecting that input in the app. Iâm guessing âoffâ has a different meaning depending on who you ask. Maybe itâs more about âroutingâ the signal in a switch board rather than a hard off as with a relay/mute.
Thatâs all I thought it did. What else would it do?
Turn off the inputs internally - inside and electronically.
Turn off how? If you donât have a source connected to an input how is it turned off?
Well I spoke to Jas G today. He didnât broach FW so neither did I. If the Naim stance is as per Halibutâs message then we will just have to experiment individually and decide which config of inputs on or off that we prefer. I am happy with all off bar Qobuz and Servers Many will go with something different and find satisfaction. Some never willâŚâŚ
All I have on are Servers, Qobuz and Internet Radio, because thatâs what I need. Everything else is off, to keep the interface tidy and easy to use.
As it now appears that all disabling inputs does is remove them from the App and in some cases the front display, that can only be good thing. My personal view is that users should be prevented from accessing the web interface, by using a password that only Naim can access. If there was much reduced scope for fiddling then people wouldnât feel the urge to do it, would just accept things as they are, and as a consequence be much more content. There is a big psychological thing going on, one person suggests something so others try, struggle to hear a consistent change and end up unhappy.
Back in the day we were beta testing 272 firmware and Naim gave us two versions to try. I tried one for a day, then switched. Thatâs better I thought. Then after another day I switched back. Was it better, or worse. I couldnât decide and concluded they sounded the same to me. I reported this to Naim and it turned out there had been a glitch and both versions in fact were the same. The mind is very good at playing tricks!
In @dragoâs case I see no big deal in preferring the NDS to the 555. I always felt that the CDS3 was a more musically enjoyable player than the CD555, despite the 555 supposedly being better. Itâs all about what works for each of us. Is someone prefers the NDS it doesnât make it better than the 555, it just means they prefer the presentation of the NDS.
I think there is more to this if you would speak to tech team.
Digital 1-2-3 ON
All inputs show in app but only one can be active. The others will be routed as off.
Digital 1-2-3 OFF
All inputs are unvisible on the screen and if you put a cable into the inputs you wonât hear anything since they are not selected = off by the digital board not listening for input signal.
I donât think it is correct sharing the information you have since I donât think you understand the information shared with you, or, the one sharing it with you donât know what it actually means. My cents.
