Earlier in the week I spotted a well-known British hi-fi retailer selling an ex-demo Naim Nova PE at an irresistible price - less than half the RRP and less than the cost of a new Nova. I’ve now had it several days. Hi-fi is something I value, and it plays an important role in my life, but I don’t have the knowledge or skill to dissect sound to the degree that some readers here (and reviewers) do. All I can usefully say to anyone interested in the Nova PE is that my speakers (PMC 25:23) sprang to new life. There was new detail, new assurance and sure-footedness, and sparkle. All topped by delight that I’d found a brilliant deal.
Nice deal - enjoy!
What did it replace?
Sounds a good deal! Enjoy
My apology Stavrose. I left out a key piece of information: I already had the Nova. Although I read reviews of the PE, I could not imagine such a tangible improvement. To be clear, I think the Nova is very good (as so too the Naim Uniti Star which I have in a second system).
We want photos! ![]()
Yes the Nova PE is a great amp ![]()
No it’s not it’s rubbish, it’s Class D ![]()
Oh dear, sorry about that.
Oh that’s interesting.. I’ve not heard a comparison between the novas before.
I wonder if the standard nova was struggling to maximise the potential of your speakers?
Anyway, good to hear you’re happy with the pe!
Neither have I, suggested retail price should indicate the PE is not only more powerfull but should sound equal to Nova or better.
If so ? its good news for Class D amplication.
A but surprising for me, as I understand Naim use Eigentakt standard Class D module.
Maybe there’s a special way of implement it.
I have yet to hear a Class D amp that I liked, all grey and rather synthetic sounding - if Naim breaks this code, its great, now I just need to source a PE at below half price.![]()
They don’t use the standard module. They use the Eigentakt technology, but have implemented this themselves on their own PCB. I’m guessing in collaboration with Purifi.
I think Naim are incapable of selecting a component without analysing it, grading it, modifying it, or in some way bending it to their own will. I guess this is no exception.
I stand corrected, thanks.
I think i would like the Naim class D amplifier that is incapsulated in a Bentley rather much… If i could affort the fuell expenses that come along with it…
Very pleased for you.
Well done ![]()

And still fed by a massive linear transformer to give instant on demand current.
I think many lack luster class D implementations are let down by everything else like poor/insufficient power supply and so forth.
I’ve been very happy with my shoebox class D power amp in one of my systems. But it’s a low power one rather than a muscle amp. A bit more than a tube amps. Not as much as a N50.
But as people are fond of stating they’ve never heard a class D amp they like, I’ll go with the spirit of the thing and state, I’ve never eaten a fish pie I didn’t like. I ate it three times so obviously every single one must be good. ![]()
I have never heard people expressing “fond” wordings - are you seeing fantasy distortion of words perhaps ?
If people post their experience I believe its their experience, end of.
here is my travel in the world of Naim :
