In Today’s News…

Seriously I think there is already contact behind the scenes

Martin

Or maybe it will start like Monday Jan 3rd 2022 and just instantly collapse for the whole year after a solid run-up.

Nah. I’ve got a good feeling about this…There’s still no viable alternative to equities and is one of the reasons for the ridiculous rise in metal prices, which I can see tanking and, for a while at least, taking equities with them in a bizarre ‘risk off’ period driven by selling Gold and Silver! Which means all that money either goes back to equities or to cash and then equities.

2022 was driven by post-Covid and the Russian war on commodities and Ukrainians that shovelled inflation up.

That’s not to say a black swan event won’t happen (Taiwan?) and send everything tits up again, however on the balance of probability you have to assume it won’t happen or, if it does, things will improve again (as they always, always do) otherwise there is no point in investing.

It would explain many things…

I think you can add the trigger of a sovereign debt crisis (or crises!) to that list, but we cannot talk about such things for obvious reasons. My view is that UK equities (esp. FTSE100 names) look ‘fully bought’ (esp. the now-recovered(?) financials), as the yields against cash look compressed, and I’m not seeing the opportunity for much more income growth.

I suspect cash/close cash may well be your friend in H1-26.

Unfortunately, the News in my country (Switzerland) has been dominated by the horrendous Bar fire in Crans-Montana/Switzerland. A lot of young lives lost during a moment they thought would be a start to another great year and greater things. Very tragic.

Absolutely shocking. Reading messages from people who can’t find their friends or children is absolutely soul destroying. Such young people in such terrifying circumstances

RAM price increases due to demand for AI/data centres causing companies such as Micron (Crucial) to pull out of the consumer market.

We’ve been planning to build a gaming PC - RAM prices have doubled or tripled in under 90 days for many products.

Kingston Fury 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 RAM example:

Horrible thing to happen. It makes every Dutch person also think about a very similar fire in Volendam on New Years day some years back. All these young people celebrating and than this…

I have removed some posts. May I remind members to please respect and abide by forum rules. Thank you.

Yes my son has been warning me about this. I have just purchased a new Mac Studio with extensive RAM and RPi5 with extensive RAM before these prices start to trickle through into end product prices,

Yes tragic, and looks like it should have been very avoidable. I hope those involved can be brought to justice where appropriate… and where appropriate safety regulations strengthened. My Swiss/British sister in law believes there is work to do on the latter. She lives and works in Switzerland.

Some very sad news , the mighty Craig has passed away - from natural causes

There are so very few of these massive tuskers left

I took this photo at Tembe in 2011 , which is one of the last places to see them

Craig didn’t die as a result of Animal/Human conflict , he wasn’t poached , he didn’t stray into Tanzania and shot by trophy hunters . He was an icon however

Decided in the end just to buy a gaming PC as although it would have been fun for us to build it, I doubt we’d have saved more than £40-50 (if that) with parts ordered from multiple vendors and it wouldn’t have had an OS.

Ordered online from PC World on Friday evening when a higher spec model than we’d planned to build briefly came back in stock. Delivered just after midday yesterday. Broadband taking a hammering as son downloads hundreds of GB of games!
