Innuos Zen Mini - a Journey into Streaming Audio

More than happy to expand on that comment quoted…

It’s a relative statement or comment, one item relative to another.

The Innous ZENmini is a fine product by itself.
Adding the separate LPSU is a nice upgrade and provides a modest uplift that can be clearly heard.
By that stage some GBP £ 2500 is spent. ( ZENmini mk3 S, 1TB SSD option, c/w LPSU ).

My simple point is that if you had a ZENmini and LPSU, upgrading to ZEN might not offer a significant upgrade, for your ears. A move to ZENITH would prove a much more noticeable move upwards.

However, you might choose the ZEN for different reasons. It has a different feature list. If you had £2500 and were looking at this type of product, you might start with ZEN and be satisfied.

A decent external DAC might also need to be factored in…
The ZENmini ( and also the PULSEmini too) is unique in that it has an internal DAC to get you started.

Having heard the PULSE recently, I would say this is clearly better compared to ND5 XS2, which is just slightly better than ZENmini + LPSU. (When all three used as transport, with nDAC ).

TBH, although I’ve heard several of these products, not all at the same time and in relation to each other. More one combination at a time, leading to an understanding of a potential hierarchy, over time.

Can’t offer any thoughts on difference between the various Innous combined server / streamers and the newer streaming transports. Instinct suggests that even at similar price points, they might sound slightly different. If you read the Innous “blurb” they talk about different implementations of their technologies, between the two types.

Suppose it really depends on your requirements - server AND streamer, or just streaming ???

As always, if you’re considering any of these items, alway best to audition either with your local dealer or even better at home.

By the way, the same separate Innous LPSU can also be partnered with the new PULSEmini. This provides a nice lift for the PM. Innous don’t mention this, (yet), in their “blurb” but it’s definitely an option.

The PULSEmini + LPSU with a decent external DAC (for example Chord Qutest) might make for a very appealing streaming source, at a modest budget. Offers the chance to go on a digital source journey. Start with just PM. Later, add an external psu. Also, add an external DAC.

Best wishes

Just curious
What are your thoughts?

Kind regards

Hi

I am thinking of replacing,.“possibly” an upgrade of the streamer to my headphone-system.

I now have a Stack Audio Link II with Volt linear powersupply which is good…
But the Innuos Sense-app is attractive, as well as the fact that many people write positively about Innuos products.

I have owned a Zen, Zenith, PhoenixUSB, PhoenixNet, now the Statement/PhoenixNet and pretty much agree with your review of Innuos streamer/servers. In terms of the new streaming focussed Pulse range the initial feedback suggests a better streaming function but when compared to say Zen/Zenith plus PhoenixNet/PhoenixUSB the answer may be different.
Early days I guess.

Well despite hours looking at online solutions my mini mk 2 isn’t seen. No phone support anymore so submitted ticket and nothing other than an auto reply.

Sorry to read your Mini isn’t seen. Do you mean seen on a network?

Yes innuos server not seen on network. Tried everything new cables restart reinstalled app. In the past you could ring and talk to someone. Now you send a support ticket and nothing happens for days which is frustrating to put it mildly!

Sorry to read…
Assume you’ve gone though basics…
Turn off and restart Mini
Turn off and restart router / switch

Yep tried for several days.
Not being able to ring innuos is very annoying

Sorry to hear of your problem, very frustrating, maybe a long shot but Innuos users have a Facebook page perhaps worth asking on there.

If you can get into your router can you see what ip addresses are connected? Also delete and reinstall the innuos app and rescan.

Now in touch with innuos via messenger.

They’re shut for Christmas
I’ve tried everything I can

I can’t understand why the move away from effective phone support

Try speaking to your local Innous dealer - today - for local support

Innuos is a small company. They are likely to be facing an ever-growing number of support requests, and they probably don’t have lots of money available at the moment to put into end-user support. It’s a classic growth problem.

I was left with extremely good impressions of their service. A few months ago, after I bought my Zen Mini, which was not quite new, there was a problem that had to be fixed at the workshop in Portugal. I received a quick reply by email and they took it from Bulgaria in 24 hours to the repair shop in Portugal. After two days they returned it to me just as quickly. I was amazed at the quick response of their service!

Had a similar issue last february: innuos server was not visible on my.innuos.com and not present in my network. Send an email and after 4 days they contacted me for a remote session.
Run several diagnostics and the server turned out to be ok and they deduced it to be a network issue. Powering down and restarting my eR switch fixed the issue. Very good experience with their customer support and hopefully my solution works for you as well. Due to the positive experience, I upgraded to the S edition.

A quick question to those with the Zen Mini mk3. Can you run it as a UPnP server over the network and still make use of the Sense app? Or does it need to be connected via USB to be able to use the Innuos Sense App? Thanks

Thanks, I think I got it. So, If I want to use the Sense app to browse, tag and play music etc, it has to be connected directly to the DAC.

That’s a shame, I don’t want to go back to a USB connection or the coax which caps it at 192. I like the idea of the sense app for managing and playing but I’d prefer keeping the server in the network cupboard away from the system and using the fibre connection from there to the FMC that feeds the VEGA G2.2.

Back to the drawing board it seems. Roon performance has been very up and down of late so looking for alternatives.
