Innuos zenith mk3 - impressions and advice for demo

I Need it only for burn in of zenith and afterwards ?….

You mentioned a Chord Hugo earlier in the thread, do you still have it ? If not something like a Dragonfly would work or an M2Tech which would get your system working using the ND555 as Dac/streamer.
I have been an Innuos user for a number of years, Zen, Zenith and just recently Statement, I have never been too concerned with burn in.

Have you thought of buying used / ex-demo ?

Will save you a chunk of cash (especially if after minimum 2TB) and will accelerate your burn-in period.

The units really are bullet proof and not a lot can go wrong. Innuos support is also 2nd to none.

I bought a 2TB Zenitth Mk3 used and it’s been one of the best bits of equipment I’ve owned.

Hi
I want it now and there was only one 4TB available ex-Demo, for not so much less.
The used ones are a better bargain, but they are all 1TB (or silver  ). Would have taken 2TB, but 4 gives me a better gut feeling. I tend to take different versions of one album (cd and 24bit / hdx rip and melco rip …)
And the dealer is nice and he is 5 min away - that’s also a good one if something goes wrong.
I have no other ideas as Innuos being bullet proof.

Currently listening to Lou rhodes … wow… zenith is capable

Hi @JimDog Yes, I have a Dragonfly Red which I bought to use with my iPhone, and an old black one which works with computers but not phones.
The Red is pretty good considering the size and price, although I only use it with IEMs so hard to say how it would compare to a ‘proper’ hifi setup.

My experience fwiw

Innuos subsequently added ethernet functionality to the nds which I use today.

Hui
Zenith arrived - now acclimatizing.
What I saw is, that this unit has different feet - instead of 3 mini silicon? pads per feet, each feet has one foamy pad - the foot itself is identical. The slight wobbling factor is identical to the demo unit. Hope that this is improvement or alternative instead of running out of mini pads…

The one pad is actually MUCH more practical on the Quadraspire SVT  - but currently running on fraim glas

Hi Guys.
need your help.
All setup and burning in - my dealer gave me a DAC on loan for burn in period.
But had no chance to wire it up yet - burning in even without player output.

I would like to use it during nighttime.

Question:
Is it necessary to plug out the Ethernet cable from LAN Port (connection as server), when DAC is plugged in via USB and Innuos is set to play.

I really like to keep it in as cable dressing … you might know

THANKS!

Why would you expect any change in use?

Hi :slightly_smiling_face:

Do you really mean that you have never heard the effect of a properly executed burn-in.?

That is correct, though much of my kit over my hifi career has been purchased secondhand or ex-dem. (The only new items I’ve bought in the last 30 years have been one CD player and two DACs - and I have not noticed any change with them.)

Aside from that, the fact human ears are not constant reference devices, and our hearing changes frequently due to physiological effects (I mean short term not age-related hearing loss), and of course our ears adjusting to the sound of a new device, and I’m not sure I could conclude that any perceived change is due to burn in unless I could have direct comparison of brand new against used (but not used so long that components will have deteriorated).

In this case, I am curious as to why and how would a computer dealing only with digital data, and in the case of a specialist one like the Innuos minimising RF noise superimposed on its output, burn in?

On many things but not on my zenith at all

Hi :mx_claus:

This has been covered in miles of text before,.so it’s best to do a forum search for further information on this.

In the last two years I have performed burn-in on four new head-amps,.and also on a number of cables.
And in a few days I will get a new head-amp,.and also a new Innuos Zen mk3 on which burn-in will be performed on.

I always write protocols during my burn-in periods,.then I see if the results are repeatable, which they proved to be.

If you only have practical experience with this,.have slept well and perform this under controlled conditions, then there is no problem in detecting differences during a burn-in process.

:mx_claus: May also take the opportunity to wish everyone here a Merry Christmas.

Hi :mx_claus:
It remains to be seen,.I get a new Innuos home in a few days, so it will be exciting to explore.

BUT,.it is Dr. Sean Jacobs who has designed the powersupply’s in Innuos products, and he himself says that the powersupply needs a few weeks to “start singing”.

Although if one of Dr.Sean Jacob’s standalone powersupply’s is used,.but has been unused for a few weeks…
SO,.they need up to a week to “start singing again”.

No answer to my question on leaving the lan cable in - and burn in discussion that I expected

So for after 10 days I would say there is really minor change - even when unplugging the demo unit and plugging in the new one I did not recognize any immediate noticeable differences.

With PN it was different.

But lan plugging again - can I let it connected when Innuos is acting as player in a DAC - which is plugged in (non connected to an amp) for burn in reasons only

I have more than one system in my house. I can listen to system A in one room and go to another room to listen to system B. When, the next day, system B sounds the same but system A sounds different I can be reasonably sure the effect is not due to a change in my hearing overnight.

I share your curiosity as to why it happens, but my scepticism has diminished sharply over the past few months as I have heard changes in one piece of kit after another as they have come in and out of my systems. This included swapping out a well-used NPX300 for a brand new one straight out of the box.

As it happens, I bought my Zenith used and it must be the only box where I did not hear any difference in the sound over time.

Merry Christmas to all of you!
Anyone an idea if I could let the lan cable (lan port) plugged in when DAC is connected and Innuos is playing?

I do :grinning:.

ATB, J

I assume you mean the streamer port (the lab one connnects to your router switch and should always be plugged in). If so I see no reason why not.
