Interesting interview with Naim's Jason Gould

Hi David, I spent a lot of time helping someone with a UnitiServe a while back. After 2 failures he moved to NAS & like ‘HH’ he was fairly convinced the NAS sounded better, although I was not that familiar enough to say.
My main job with him was on the set up side & that made my decision to give the US a miss when I changed to streaming; the inability to edit & such like made my decision to go NAS

So, no available comparisons between Tidal and Qobuz, then…

Not yet unless you’re a beta tester. Shoutout to the beta-testers, keep up the good work!

@marcusman Now I don’t claim to have golden ears, quite the opposite quite possibly, but I cannot tell any difference between Tidal 16/44 and Qobuz 16/44 (through Roon) even though I will always choose the Qobuz track if I have a choice. (I’m a good European you know).

There’s no way I could pick one or the other though in an A vs B.

I prefer not to use MQA (my DAC is not an MQA DAC) so I always use Qobuz for high res music.

I still don’t get why the core doesn’t match the look of the classic range, that’s enough to put me off.

That’s because it’s part of the Uniti range. Anyway, as it’s networked it can be hidden away.

True, I should have worked that out from the name :joy:.
Just odd given that the product is most appropriate to classic range users.

I’m with you .sjb I had a Qobuz trial via Roon and couldn’t tell the difference via Roon. Jason Gould’s presentation alludes to Qobuz sounding 2-3 time better than Tidal. My assumption is his mention is for the new upcoming native implentation of Qobuz vs Tidal for the new streamers. Regardless I’m looking forward to giving this a try once available.

I suspect Jason is comparing Tidal MQA to Qobuz studio masters. Given the inferiority of MQA and the fact that Naim streamers cannot completely unfold MQA there is going to be a significant difference.

I am quite excited about the qobuz integration, I’ve got a good feeling regarding sound quality :crossed_fingers:t2:

Don’t get too excited as it won’t be available for your NDX.

Yes but next Saturday I pick up a few new toys! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Let’s hope that includes a decent rack. Have fun.

Without a Fraim, better return your new toys :star_struck::laughing:

You blokes, don’t miss a trick :joy:.

It’s not a Fraim however I am on the lookout!
Saturday I pick up a new NDX2, SL interconnect and 2 more powerlines.

The Fraim concern is I have a 1 year old and a 5 year old in the house and where it is now it’s nice and safe…

I can understand that. We used a fire guard when the boys were small, and were using Sound Factory Tripods at the time, so no glass and balls. It’s good not to have to be on the lookout all the time.

I was just thinking about a fire guard just as you wrote that!
It’s a difficult one as I do want one but it’s my main concern. The other thing is, I don’t know what you guys think, I am not sold on the look of a Fraim with only 3 levels, looks a bit low aesthetically. Obviously I could get more levels but that comes at a cost.
The one benefit I have to where my kit is now on the shelf, not one cable touches the floor, itself or the wall. With a low Fraim cable dressing is going to be more interesting.

I’d just hang on until the children are bigger. Just keep an eye out for a used Fraim in the usual places. I paid £1,000 for a base and three levels, and then a further £250 for an extra level. Quadraspire SVT is a great alternative and much more solid, and you can get longer legs so it doesn’t look so low. You don’t want the children sitting on the top…

:+1:t2:

£1000 that’s a great price and I’d certainly be tempted by that. Yes I did look at the SVT and whether it makes any difference they do do it with a bronze isolation upgrade kit.

The bronze upgrade is what I had before the Fraim. The latter is really much better but is less child proof.
