Interesting TV

I’ve started watching the Night Manager. A gripping storyline and a great cast. BBC drama at it’s best!

It’s ok but IMO it’s really missing characters like Corky (Tom Hollander) and Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie). Tom Hiddlestone’s character is a very cold fish

Exhausting but enjoyable few days looking after 5yo grandson. One of the highlights has been discovering Shaun the Sheep from the Aardvark stable on BBC iPlayer. Utterly brilliant 10 Minute shorts leaving the little man rolling around with laughter. As ever a lot of nods to the grown ups watching. Do yourself a favour and catch a couple of you need cheering up.

Do watch the later prequels!

Given events in Venezuiela, people might find this interesting.

On Channel 5, so probably gone under the radar for a lot of people.

Usual slow paced format. But not something most 80 year olds would be attempting.

Agreed, really good. For some reason the final season isn’t on Netflix, just Paramount.

Careful. I posted one word, Caracas, and it got binned!

I’ve made a sneaky edit to one of the words I posted.

A cunning ploy!

We loved 1883, Mrs D would say at the end of each episode, How are they going to kill the next people, we had everything, snakes , murder, weather , crushings , drownings, etc etc. It prompted me to do a little research into the Oregon trail and certainly was a tough trip to make. There are some interesting films on You Tube, amazing to see where the wagon wheels cut tracks into the rock. The series was great , well acted and nicely written. I thought Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were really great along with Sam Elliot and Isabel May.

Over Xmas we watched the Salt Path Scandal, quite different, I never fell for that story in the first place , but our neighbour was so disappointed with the pair of them.

Just watched David Bowie - The Final Act on Channel 4. A documentary that covers the low points of the 90’s, his triumphant Glastonbury performance in 2000 and the making of his two last albums. Just brilliant and incredibly moving. It’s always sad when someone dies but he is the only artist that when I hear one of his songs, I wish was still alive. Very highly recommended

Thanks – I wondered about that, especially as I saw some comments that S4 ‘jumped the shark’ although, with Beth Dutton’s character, you’re never sure what’s coming next.

New series on BBC1/iplayer - Waiting For The Out. It’s a sort of prison drama but much more nuanced. A young man, whose brother and father have served time, runs a philosophy class for prisoners. Really well done and 5 stars from Guardian and The Times

Watched Suits via Netflix, and if anyone hasn’t watched this, I’d suggest stopping after (latest) S3.

The initial construct was interesting, if very lightweight, but the constant gibbering-on, apologising, and general levels of stupidity exhibited, became too wearing for me. It’s described as a legal drama – barely. Lots of empty suits.

It shows that TV shows, taking Billions for example (in the early seasons), can benefit from a strong actor as the central figure.

Another Western.

‘The Abandons’ on Netflix - really enjoyed the first 3 episodes.

It’s just a great genre.

Mrs AC named a few lead actresses within minutes when I had no idea until the credits.

Not perfect for a couple of reasons but good vs bad themes work and nice to see powerful lead ladies.

3 episodes in and The Night Manager 2 is looking like an utter dog. So boring - not sure what the Beeb thought they were doing here

I disagree. It’s good, so much better than a lot of the dross offered by Netflix and the like. Okay, it’s not as good as the first series, but with the miraculous ‘resurrection’ of the Hugh Laurie character perhaps it will improve?

Each to their own as per usual. At least you’re enjoying it! Hope no one sees your spoiler

I’m afraid I tend to agree, full of holes in the story.

I thoroughly enjoyed Pluribus on Apple TV. Interesting twist to a common theme.
