I use a Teddy Pardo Bluetooth 5.0 receiver
(Custom made)
And I find it to rather good for me,
Like you I have no home broadband,
It’s inconceivable to me reducing hi-res streams down to Bluetooth quality, if you’re happy with the sound it’s all good, but I wouldn’t be able to live with that.
I’d be interested to hear what it’s like but even if I was happy enough with the sound, I still wouldn’t be happy!
Have you considered using something like a Douk Audio U2 Pro. I used one whilst I was trying out Apple Music from my iPad to my Naim 222. The Douk IIRC connected to my iPad usb out and then provided optical and/or SPDIF out which I connected to my Naim box. Output was in hi-res but did mean having cables between boxes. I used a long (4m) usb c to usb b cable.
I hadn’t heard of that one but having just seen it, it doesn’t have USB-C input.
There are 3-4 decent DACS available currently that do have USB-C inputs, I could get one of those but it seems crazy to me that Naim doesn’t cater for what is now the ONLY wired connection from ALL smartphones and tablets.
I’m sure they have a good reason, I just don’t know what it is!
I think the ideal box would be a Naim DAC-V1 - if you can find one. Getting a bit old, but maybe the obvious partner to the NAP 100. I’m not sure any integrated short of a SuperNait is going to be significantly better than your current NAP 100.
The Atom, by the way, digitises the analogue inputs…
It doesnt need one - usb c is backwards compatible with the earlier standards.
(With the caveat that the usb ports on most Naim boxes are only intended for connection to usb/portable drives. The DAC-V1 is an exception.)
Using the usb c to usb b cable you connect the usbc to your iPad and the usbb to the input of the Douk. You can then use either Spdif or optical or 12s (hdmi) to connect to the Naim box. You might need to use a separate cable to give power to the Douk.
Apologies in advance if this is teaching you to suck eggs as it were.
@Rocketboy
Do you have an iPhone aswell?
Connect iPad to hifi,
Use iPhone to control music on iPad,
I did this before I got my BT receiver,
This is interesting, I am really impressed with the Nap 100, even with my cheap little DAC, it sounds much better than I thought it would.
I thought a Supernait would blow it away though? Why is the SN 5 times the price?
I can connect my iPad to DAC V1 with one simple cable?!
Presumably USB-C to USB-B?
Does this work?
Current product - with preamp, preamp power supply, headphone stage, phono input… ?
As I understand it - yes/yes.
But it would be good to get confirmation from someone who has actually done it…
Ok, I don’t need any of that, my iPad does the stream (my only source) the DAC does the conversion and the Nap100 powers my Spendors.
So what I need then is a better DAC, and if the DAC V1 works with what I have…job done!
Does anyone know if the DAC V1 definitely works like this?
What you need is a home network. You can buy a box that you plug a SIM into if thats your bag. The ipad and wiim can then connect to it and then you can use modern, streaming solutions correctly.
What about an Audioquest Dragonfly DAC/amp? They were designed to plug into an iPhone (via the Apple Camera Connector or whatever Apple calls it today).
I’ve had all of the Dragonfly’s and the Meridian one and have found the FiiO stuff is better.
FiiO K1 is about £80 and it’s fantastic for the money👍🏾 but I need something better, preferably from Naim. The DAC V1 fits the bill If it works with an iPad.
This interesting, do you know what the box for a sim is called? This would be an option.
What about a Chord Mojo(2)?I used to use the original Hugo connected with the camera connection kit to my phone. I used it with headphones mostly, but did try it connected to my Supernait 2 briefly.
Sounded rather good too.
This would be perfect if it works👍🏾, I’m hoping to hear from someone who has tried it before I buy though.
I’m sure I read it doesn’t work somewhere before which is why I haven’t bought one, it’s the obvious choice for my Nap 100 in every way…if it works with iPad🙏🏾
