Is it me or is the Linn Krystal a dust magnet?

Seems to pick up more fluff than any previous cartridge.

I have a Krystal and a) it picks up more dust than the Arkive it replaced and b) I think it digs deeper into the groove so this is no surprise. The Project Alu cleaning machine sorts the problem out for me.

Ps: Green stuff and a stylus cleaning brush are my friends. I clean the record (never seems to need cleaning again) then clean the stylus at session end with brush and green stuff.

That’s a coincidence, I had the Arkiv too.

Interestingly it’s a fairly new LP though I’d left it on the platter for a few days.

In the room light the LP looks quite clean but shining a torch on it it’s extremely dusty.

Just took out the second LP of 2 I don’t think I’d played and there’s seems to ge lots of dust on it. Shame as they’re lined paper sleeves.

If I resurrect the Project cleaner I’ll need ear defenders!

G’day AC,

Does your Linn have a plastic lid?

I’ve resisted using this for some time but just did and can’t believe how much clearer it all sounds.

Trying to remember which cartridges this caused issues with

I clean every record new or secind hand before the first play. The amo7nt of muck in new albums is surprising.

Yes, original lid. In fairness the hifi room needs a good clean and dusting down.

Ideally I’d clean new vinyl I’m just too disorganised these days!

Linn used to say that the best way to clean a record was to play it. What you bought isn’t a stylus, it’s a conversion kit to make your LP12 into an RCM.

The human race is doomed when we need warnings such as the ‘Caution…’ on that bottle!

The dust could be lifting of the mat too. Even the new records seem to need a proper wet clean to get rid of static.

Interestingly, with a 30+ year old felt mat I was going to ask hoe peiple clean theirs?

Maybe one of those tacky paper rollers used to get fluff off clothes?

Yes, I used one the other day and it was perfect. Just keep it clear of the needle.

Krystal I think so tread carefully.

My mat never needs cleaning. Presumably because the Project Wash it kills static?

Aluminium cantilever :unamused:

How old is it? The mat that is.

Also is your project cleaner noisy - mine’s an older one and sounds like a jet engine.

The one you’ve got. :scream:
