Is my NC NAP250 defective?

Yes, I know both and agree! FYI there’s a dealer in Winston Salem that shows promise (Ember Audio).

Yes, I’ll definitely look them up when I shop for the NPX300.

HA!HA!HA! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

…in response to those asking what the NC NAP250 bundled interconnects are…

A pair of these custom Neutrik terminated mains flexes!

Line (Brown) to XLR pin 1 - HOT
Neutral (Blue) to XLR pin 3 - COLD
Earth (Green/Yellow) to XLR pin 2 - EARTH (would you believe?)

…it’s an amusing re-purposing of a mains cable.

Looks like Powerline cable but thinner.

No, powerline cable has a rubbery jacket and is custom made high end cable.

This is BASEC H03VV - F mains flex.

For those not electrically aware, BASEC standardise the twin/earth cable in your walls for your house wiring.

Based on cursory research, the actual cable is probably Permanoid 2182Y from their online catalog. They make a lot of cables.

Thanks for posting @JayJ
The nicest thing I can say about that is that at least they’re included with our Naim purchases (unlike most manufacturers).

Before anyone screams, to be fair on Naim, its three wires of copper carrying a BALANCED audio signal.

It’s actually quite an interesting connector…Naim say they have custom de-coupled the Neutrik from the shell, which if you look carefully…they have…the 3 pin/3 socket part of this connector is indeed a Neutrik silver, matching the Neutrik sockets for balanced audio in the NC Kit (and also Atom HE).

Naim have put the Neutrik pin component in their own plastic housing which is clipped and not screwed, so the pin/hole component moves freely of the housing forward/backward by about 0.5mm.

In a standard Neutrik MM connector, which this component comes from, the shell and connector screw together as one big solid sandwich…

I thought it breached safety code to share colour coding between mains and interconnect cable.
I’m sure it does but if you don’t look you won’t know.
Getting away with it doesn’t mean it’s right. :-1:t2:

Nothing new - the XLR leads have always been re-purposed mains flex. I have some old Naim ‘special active leads’ here, which are the same, just with DIN plugs both ends instead.

Some pics:
