I’ve been using JRiver as a UPNp / DLNA media server with my NDX 2 for some years however, from time to time, it crashes while I play music from the Naim app. This never happens the other way round when I control music directly from JRiver.
The log file reports the following:
Playback state is PLAYING, we seem stuck, will refresh Transport State
General: TopLevelExceptionFilter: Unhandled exception – program crashing
Has anybody experienced this issue? If so, how did you solve it?
Thank you very much in advance!
There are many variables here;
Windows, Linux?
Version?
Do you have these 3 options ticked/unticked?
Tbh you’re probably best posting on the jriver yabb interact support forum.

Thank you @robert_h for your reply.
JRiver, version 24.0.78, is running on Windows 10 Pro. My boxes are ticked just like yours. Have you ever experienced these crashes? I didn’t think about JRiver support forum, it could be a good idea.
By the way this issue doesn’t seem to come up on a regular basis and doesn’t seem to be related to anything particular. I was wondering if it could be my android tablet.
I have version 30 on Linux, and I think 34 is out, so yours is behind; this issue could easily have been found and fixed.
24.0.78 was released in March 2019.
Using JRiver 31 for Windows. I’ve had the occasional hiccup, but I don’t recall ever crashing JRiver.
I wish it was that simple, maybe it is. I do hope you are right. I must admit I’ve been lazy about upgrading as I didn’t feel the necessity… Maybe there’s the possibility to try the newer version before purchasing, I shall consider that and see how it goes.
By the way @robert_h did you create your own music server on Linux? Do you prefer it over Windows?
@jegreenwood JRiver never crashed here as well, just when using the Naim app.
Curious - If you use JRemote, does hat crash?

Yes it’s jriver on Linux creating a upnp server that’s good for unitiqute, ndx2, qb etc.
However now it’s only really used for library management. I switched to roon and use that 99.99999% but taking all metadata from what’s in my local files. The metadata is all handled within jriver (with occasional use of mp3tag on windows).
When I started with roon, my new roon library was a bit of a mess and - at that time - the solution seemed to be using jriver for metadata management was far simpler.
So buy cd / rip / fix in jriver as necessary, add cover art if missing / rescan in roon.
I don’t know where all the development in jriver has gone - probably a lot on the video playback side - but I’ve used it for a number of years, but stopped the upgrading each year; v30 definitely seems to be ultra stable on Linux.

@jegreenwood I’m sorry but I don’t have JRemote! I might be wrong of course, but I suspect it won’t crash with it.
@robert_h Have you ever had JRiver on Windows to compare the experience? No wonder why it doesn’t really interest you as you use Roon. Do you find JRiver better at managing the metadata? I tend to prefer mp3tag.
I think JRiver 24 is great, I’ve been having a great experience so far, except for that recurring crash when I use the Naim app in the tablet. I think you are right, JRiver seems to be spending money mostly on the video side. That’s good but it doesn’t appeal to me.
