I too am lucky to have seen him play live in Edinburgh. Wrote some truly great songs - Janis Joplin’s version of Me and Bobby Mcgee on her album “Pearl” (which I bought in my student days in the early to mid 70s) has always been a particular favourite!

Interesting for me was all songs he played all had open chords - he never moved past the third fret - not one barre chord but all classic songs.

Apparently Joni Mitchell struggled with putting down her music until someone showed her open tuning.

He wasn’t using open tuning just standard tuning and the basic chords all in their simplest configuration.
This was probably his chord chart. - all he needed to write those classic songs.
