Kudos Ks1 vs Chord Odyssey x

Good morning, I have both of these speaker cables for my Supernait 3, but the kudos is that, despite the slightly tighter bass, they seem more open and transparent, and a bit more musical. If anyone has tried them, please share your impressions and which one you prefer. Just for comparison.

I use KS-1 with my Supernait 3 and am perfectly happy with them. :+1:

Have you tried NAC A5? Recommended by Naim for best performance and designed specifically for their own amps. Personally I wouldn’t go near another cable (other than Superlumina) with Naim amps if I wanted to get the intended performance from them.

NAC A5 was first made a long time ago 1989? Where Naim amplifiers more critical of speaker cabling in those days?

Yes I think they were and the use of NAC A5 was mandatory to avoid possible instability. Modern Naim amps are more tolerant and it is safe to use a wide range of cables without causing problems. But Naim still recommend NAC A5 (or Superlumina) for best performance. Of course one could be cynical and say they only say that because they make it and want to sell it. Perhaps. But equally one could say that they make it and sell it because it allows their amps to achieve the performance intended.

Cables that lack sufficient thickness will negatively impact bass performance when used for longer lengths.

Everyone who has tried/chosen/uses Kudos KS-1, no matter what their speakers, appear suitably impressed.

I compared KS-1 against my SL speaker cables into my 505’s and, whilst not bettering them, they certainly gave them a run for their money. Had my purchases been the other way around, I’d have mentally struggled to justify the not inconsiderable additional cost.

A few years ago I tried the nac a5 but chord seems more open transparent and fluid with greater detail

If you’ve tried NAC A5 and prefer the Chord then fair enough. I’m not really clear on what your problem is. You say you have both the Kudos and the Chord. I wouldn’t worry about what anyone else thinks, just use whichever you prefer. It’s your system, your ears and your preferences. If I said I prefered the Kudos then how would that help you?

Well there’s some shared DNAin that previously the internal wiring in Kudos speakers was a Chord derivative so I imagine the designs will be in someway similar.

That’s true, and Kudos always used Chord cables with their speakers before they came up with their own. They are very similar to the lower level Chords, using silver plated copper of similar gauge to Rumour, although they use a different dielectric.

All true, the reason that Derek decided to produce a Kudos cable came down to the fact that Chord were making improvements to their cables and any changes impacted the results he was getting from one set of speakers to the next. Understandably, he needed consistency so, although he had been happy with the Chord cables, he found one that he could rely on to remain largely the same. I’d imagine they come from exactly the same cable manufacturer that Chord used.

That was for internal cabling, naturally it made commercial sense to make it available to the wider public.

I imagine the relationship between Chord and Kudos is still pretty good - I had the opportunity to sample a pair of S10’s rewired with Sarum cable for a few weeks, which was interesting.

And from our (consumer) point of view, KS-1 is so cheap, it’s deffo worth trying before splashing out on more expensive stuff……?:person_shrugging:.
