Looking for opinions and experiences of those driving the Kudos Titan 808 with non-naim amplifiers, especially tube amps in a non active configuration.
Interesting, might be worth asking Derek at Kudos if any of the Titan series development work was done with valves.
You would need to ask Kudos.
Although they are quite sensitive, it doesn’t tell you about what really matters for tube amps. Phase angles and impedance dips. With it’s isobarik bass loading, I imagine the 808s would be nigh on impossible for a tube amp regardless of power.
Again, you would really need to ask Kudos.
I’ve heard the 808’s many times in an all tube system.
Amps were either Audio Note or Air Tight. No problems driving them. Great dynamics and control.
The amps were Airtight ATM300R and Audio Note Tomei Kensei.
Okay, but that sounds like you have all the information and confirmation you need then. You know it works. You know you like it. What else is there to know? Presumably you have a tube amp and are pondering 808s or have 808s and are pondering a tube amp?
FWIW, there are not a lot of 808 owners on the forum. I’d guess less than 30. And there are even fewer of us who use tube amps. While it’s not impossible, it seems extremely unlikely to find another 808 tube user.
I have absolutely marvellous results with an Air Tight ATM-1s / Kudos 808 Combo.
Highly recommended. No lack of power.
Tried also
Klimax Stereo → was not convinced
Lejonklou Stereo → loved that amp
Air Tight : the best (with good, say: not original!, tubes!)
(Telefunken/Philips)
There are some mighty McIntosh amps, MC451 that I have read about in a review from Reference Audio. They are a hybrid mono amp with an internal crossover. This allows the 300w tube amp to feed mid and treble, while the 450w solid state section feeds the bass. This is a unique arrangement of 808 and MC451 that wouldn’t work with any other amps or speakers.
The only slight issue is the £20k per mono amp!!!
You’re getting your forum members muddled up!
Mistake noted. Thanks for pointing it out.
